Default Constitutional Amendments - which are most important

What are your top three amendments and why?

A discussion I've had in another thread got me to thinking, which do people believe are the most important constitutional amendments. Being a hunting website I suppose the 2nd may be at the top of many people's list, but I was just wondering, given 27 amendments where everyone stands because the 2nd amendment doesn't even crack my top five.

Here's a linkto a complete list of all amendments:

Well this may be quite a problem for me, I wouldn't want to lose any of them but let me give it a go.
Quote:
Article [I.]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
God comes first and my right to worship or not worship I would not want dictated by any government or person.
Quote:
Article [II.]
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
I want the right to be able to protect myself, my property and family with a gun if I see fit to do so.
Quote:
Article [IV.]
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
This one allows me to use my guns legally in maintaining the security of my home, property, and person legally!

My top three, but I would not want to give any others up.

I agree with Taz on the 1st and 2nd amendments as being # 1 and 2 in importance. As for the 3rd in a trio, I'm split between the 4th, 5th, 10th and 13th. all of these amendments have had a huge impact upon our country and helped make it the successful country that we are privileged to live in.

Actually if it were not for me putting God before all I would have put the second as my number one, because as long as I can own my guns I can use them to protect the rest![8D]

But have you ever had too?

That's why I can't put it in my top five. I've never needed it for protection. I suppose if using a gun for protection was a frequent occurence for me, then I'd rate it more highly, but in nearly 50 years, I've not had the need, notonce. Thankfully.

Ranwin, no offense intended to you personally but that thought process is one dimensional for the following reasons. Although YOU may never need to exercise this right in a violent or potentially violent incident, many of our fellow citizens have had to do that very thing--Use a gun to protect their safety. The vast majority of these instances only involve displaying the gun and the incident being safely resolved but that is a valid and preferred use of a gun for self protection.

Using your line of reasoning about not having to use a gun and therefore not needing the 2nd amendment or the 2nd amendment not being in the top 5 is similar to deciding that you don't need insurance since you haven't had to file a claim for the last 50 years. Although both may never be needed during your life, they both become critical when crap happens and you suddenly need them. Not taking proper precautions such as having insurance or preserving your right to own a gun would result in you having a financial tragedy without insurance or a potentially life threatening tragedy without the ability to own and possession of a gun.

All of the amendments are important or there wouldn't have been support to enact them. Besides, protecting the 2nd amendment means you're taking steps to further protect yourself so you can exercise your rights afforded by the other 26 amendments.

p.s. You haven't listed your top 3 and the resons why. All you've done so far is criticise why the 2nd shouldn't or wouldn't be in your top 3. Batter up.

Sorry, I didn't mean it as a criticism, only my reasoning. FYI - Insurance doesn't crack my top five list of anything either so probably not a good analogy.

My top five.

1 - because in the supression of freedom those are the first rights to be denied.

4 - because it guarantees my security and privacy.

6 - it keeps us from living in a police state.

14 - its as close as we will come to an equal rights ammendment.

15 - because it means everyone gets to be part of the decision making process - voting.

I'd place the 2nd amendment 6thor 7th it's in a close tie with the 21st amendment.
