GM used the same tires and experienced no problems. What does that say?

That says that the first generation of Ford Explorers had too narrow a wheel baseand the only way Ford could get the thing to pass government roll over tests was to DEFLATE the tires to 26 psi, not a good idea with any tire.
When this problem first came to light, Firestone sat on its ass while Ford slammed them. Why? To try and save a near 100 year relationship. In the end Firestone got screwed. Now they can't give a Firestone tire away and arenot doing very well with Bridgestone either.Hindsite is always 20/20 though. Looking back Firestone should have blasted back at Ford about the wheel base of the first gen. Explorers. But no they did the right thing and wanted to analyze the problem(s) and find a solution which they were doing untill they realized Ford was dumping the whole problem on them.
