Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default FEMA Ignores Nederland TX

Mayor Dick Nugent of nederland Texas has been left high and dry by FEMA. As of yesterday he had contacted FEMA and they had no plans to come to his flooded town.

Mayor Nugent said,

"We filed the paperwork ahead of time and now FEMA says they never recieved it. They say they won't come till they receive the proper notice even though we filed ahead of schedule. We have no help in Nederland and need it now."

As of yesterday, FEMA had no presence in the flooded town of Nederland and declined comment on the matter. Mayor Nugent is still pressing for the critical FEMA assistance that his town needs and hopes that the town will have some assistance by the end of the week.

FEMA isn't generating good PR lately.

They also haven't shown up in my neck of the woods (Idaho) and stuffed my pockets with money. I'm upset.

I'm from Port Neches, Tx. the town next to Nederland. We are between Port Arthur, and Beaumont. I have not been able to get much info on our towns, but thankfully I have a friend in the Nederland fire department, who was able to check on my home. It has not been damaged very much, and hopefully we will be allowed back home soon, and our jobs will start back up! NO looting so far!

it seems that even though Fox News, and CNN had reporters in Bmt. and P.A. they seem to think that Rita just hit a "rural spot!" NO PEOPLE, NO DAMAGE! Yeah right! Jefferson County Tx. and Calc.(sp.?) Parrish, La. are home to over a half million people! If it were their homes, lives, and jobs, MAYBEthey wouldn't think that the damage was LIGHT!!!!

as far as FEMA and other agencies are concerned, I'm beginning to think they are a joke! I know we need to be a little patient, with Katrina AND Rita things are going to take time, but I'm just not sure that they will be of any help at all!
I am not asking for any hand-outs, but it looks like our country is becomming more of a "welfare state" every day!
I am fully insured and hopefully, my job will come back! But if you are responsible enough to have a job, a home, and responsible enough to insure your stuff, you will probably not get much, if any help at all! Even temporarily! But if you don't work, and/or you just live off "the system," dont worry! They WILL be giving you the hand-out that you are accustomed to getting!

Sorry for the venting guys! I am not trying to whine and complain, I AM A VERY BLESSED PERSON! It's just that the "American Dream," of hard work counting for something, that has been fading for years, has really been shattered! However, if you are used to a welfare check, don't worry,IT WILL GET TO YOU!

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and prayers of all of my huntingnet family! I am truely BLESSED, and we WILL be back!
