Don't listen to this audio clip of Gen. Honore taking the mike from Mayor Nagin at a Rita press conference unless you want to roll on the floor in laughter.
Earlier in the week I listened to Nagin make some derogatory comments about the Gen. and who is in charge in NO. I think we just found out who is in charge in NO.
The press has been stuck on stupid for years. They do some very good things -- especially a lot of the undercover investigations. I especially like when news programs expose consumer fraud, etc. However, most of what's on just seems stupid. Most questions seem stupid. Some broadcasters can barely read their own teleprompters.
It really gets funny when one reporter asks another reporter a question about an incident and the other one can't answer because they don't understand the question and/or didn't do their homework.

I hate to interrupt this little press-bashing party y'all got going on here, but the only part the press played in the above sound clip was bringing it to you fellas to listen to.

Yes, the media gets stuck on stupid. Liberal bias is a part of the problem. But the medium is also part of the problem. For example, the TV news is TV, images. During the coverage of Hurricane Rita, Friday evening, all I could find on the damn TV was pictures of a building fire in Galveston for awhile. I just don't happen to think the burning down of three buildings in Galveston is a national story or even a state-of-Texas story, while a hurricane is coming ashore. I assume it dominated the news coverage for about an hour because it made better images than alternative coverage which may have been more truley news worthy. What is true, what is significant, what is rational take a backseat to what is image-worthy, what absorbs interest.
I hear that. I go so frustrated when Rita was coming in that I turned it off. There was a news reporter who couldn't find anything to report on except for a couple of newspaper stands and tress knocked over - of course she made it sound like the natural disaster of all time. Funny. Idiots.

Another "stuck on stupid" reporter: This morning I was listening to CNN when a reporter was interviewing an emergency doctor working at a triag center, she asked the guy, "Aren't you worried that when people return to their homes they will get hurt on broken glass and trying to clear trees and debri?" Ah, duhhh. What kind of idiotic question is that? Of course he's concerned you moron, that's why he's there doing his job. Geez I'm so sick of the bloated hype in the media. [:'(]
