Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Charity starts at home (sarcasm)

I didn't send money for the tsunami. Charity starts at home, and the tsunami didn't hit the US.

I didn't send money for Katrina. Charity starts at home, and Katrina didn't hit Ohio.

I didn't send money to the Columbus food bank. Charity starts at home, and the food bank isn't in Galloway.

I din't give my unemployed neighbor any food. Charity starts at home, and I'm not unemployed, he is.

That's right. Charity starts at home, and that's where all my money is staying!

Charity --
[ol][*]Benevolence or generosity toward others or toward humanity. [/ol]
How on earth can anyone say "charity starts at home?" It's a contradiction in terms. Please help me understand this mentality.

It all depends how you define "home". Some define it strictly as the structure in which they live. Such as your house is your home. Others define it as the place the live. And that "area" in which they live is all dependant on how they view that. Some say "My home is Galloway" (If you are in another town), "my home is Ohio"(If you are in another state) "My home is the USA"(If you are in another country), My home is Earth"(if you are on another planet). All depends on your point of view.

I don't donate to anybody either so don't feel bad.I know what it is like to lose a home and a vehicle and not get help from the govt. and feel others should learn how it feels too.

Yes, charity does start at home.
In the last couple of years my wife and I have given aseveral thousand bucks to help family members in their time of need. And we know where the money went. No administrative cost.
The government says that, so far, Katrina will cost each tax paying family $600.
I feel like I have given.
There seems to be plenty of people close to each one of us that needs help. AndI would not feel very good if I was helping people I don't know when there are so many close to me that ICAN help.

P.S. I did try to take some cloths buy the Salvation Army and was told they don't accept anything on Mondays. I would not have believed it if it hadn't of happened to me.

Actually eto if one is charitable he will first take care of those in need in his home and then the person will be charitable with what is left out side of their home.

Think about it, if someone won't help out those in need in thier own home they darn sure are not going to help out any one else.

You haven't bought in the Miss Hillary notion that "It Takes a Village". Don't worry, you'll be reprogrammed at state expense right after next Presidential election cycle.

I think you all miss the point. The definition of charity is helping others. If you're not going to help others, fine, that's your call. But don't try to weasel your way out of it, or rationalize the behavior with a statement like "charity starts at home."

I hear what you're saying Taz. You've got the true meaning of the phrase. I'm speakingabout folks who twist it.
