Help me understand about these misplaced children

Some sources believe there are still several thousand children separated from their parents/legal guardians. There are stories every day of children being reunited with their rightful parents - five year old boy carrying his 5mo old brother for days finally finds parents, 3 year old girl sees her own picture and gets back to her parents, there are infants that have been left behind or have been moved from hospitals, baby's are being born throughout this mess.

I can understand if a premie on life support gets separated from its parents, but tell me, how in God's green earth does a toddler, or 5 or 6 year old become separated from their parents? I feel for these people and maybe I am not grasping the reality of the brutality of the situation down there, but how do you let anything short of death get in between you and your child?

Bob the particular instance you are speaking about involved a 6 year old boy, his 15 month old brother, several cousins younger then 6 and several other children younger then 6. What happened was this, a chopper came in to rescue a group of people, the parents loaded thier children first with the understanding that the chopper would come back for the parents as well.

Long story short, another chopper did come to get the parents but took the parents to a different evacuation center then the kids! The parents wound up in Houston and were frantically searching for their kids, in the mean time the kids went some where else, the 6 year old knew his full name, his brothers and his cousins as well as his parents, the workers where the kids were started calling around to find the parents at the same time the parents were doing the same thing, they finally were reunited.

I will be honest and say that I too would have insisted as a parent that the kids go first followed by the women, then the elderly.

Ya but one lady was boarding a bus with her children behind her, well the kids didnt make it on as she drove away thinking they would be on the bus behind her, well they were but went to a different place. How can you board a bus before your children, they would have been in front of me, or how can you just drive off without them.I would have jumped off the bus if the driver wouldnt have stopped to let me off.
