I'm really at my wit's end with Bush on this Katrina thing, $hit should have been happening a long time ago. This is tippping the scales with my pattience with him, he has been worthless on the border situation and he should have been much stronger and more defined with Iraq and Afganistan, I hate to think I'd sway to the liberal side but he is leaving me no choice. The man is really showing that he is the lesser of two evils. Or is he?
Aw, cmon Metro, what do you want him to do, go hand out bottles of water? Why not take some of that anger and point it toward the mayor and idiot governor? They were totally and completely unprepared for this thing, despite all the training, warning, and scenerios. It was/is a total lack of leadership from those two idiots. It takes a lot of time and planning to mobilize the way we have, things are getting done. Having said all that, it is still insane to see people huddled togather on a brige 5 freakin days after the storm, and don't get me started on the convention center.[:@]
Bush had FEMA in Baton Rogue (sp?) prior to the hurricane. They weathered the hurricane like the rest of the people and were out after the storm past. Problem is no one knew it was going to be this horrific, there were places they couldn't reach due to flooding and some of the very people they were trying to help were shooting at them. I like how people bash Bush but not the local governments. Guess Bush should have thrown on his red cape and flown around pulling people off their roof tops. Then he should crush some coal with his mighty super grip and forge diamonds for every victim to help pay for their loss.

I think it has been handled as well as could be by the Bush administration. Be careful of accepting the accusations that were first whispered by the Democrats and then spread by the mainstream media that mindlessly repeats and distributes their rhetoric.

I was going to ignore this but have changed my mind. While the President may or may not have done as much as you or I would like him to have done on any number of issues the fact remains that one man, even the President of the United States, wields only so much power. Our constitution was set up so that there are 3 branches of government for the very reson that no single entity can or should be able to do anything with out the approval of the other 2. The influence of the presidency may be used to sway any number of issues and the powers of that position that enable action based solely on the needs of a particular situation are well spelled out and duly scrutinized when put into action. We are a republic, not a democracy or dictatorship and therefore even if an individual leader wishes to do the right thing, he is constrained by those laws governing even the highset position in the land. If you wish to lay blame and responsibility for most of the problems in the U.S. today, lay them squarely at the feet of those most responsible, the congress. Most of these leeches have been in office throughout the terms of at least two presidents and in many cases three or more. The true power in our government lies on capitol hill not in the whitehouse. State and municipal governments are just as bad, the states have essentially given up their voice in national politics when they allowed the senate to become what it is today, rather than the representatives for the state they were envisioned to be by the framers of the constitution. It is all to easy to blame the president or that particular presidents "administration" for our problems while letting the real culprits off the hook.
Though I am completely under whelmed by Bush"s leadership during this fiasco the only thing I blame him for is not getting in front of the camera"s sooner. He should have left his vacation and checked things out for himself long before he did.
That"s it. To point the finger of blame toward him is disingenuous at best. Let"s remember some simple facts:
1) The city was built under the water level " this wasn"t about "if" this was going to happen, but when it was going to happen. Don"t start yapping about federal funding for fixing the levy " that responsibility lays squarely on the incompetent governor of LA who did NO screaming prior to this disaster " which leads me to point number 2
2) The incompetent governor of LA showed no leadership, no forethought, and very little afterthought. It is the governor"s responsibility to declare a state of emergency " it is the governor"s responsibility to request federal assistance. The federal government can NOT do anything until the state declares it. Nothing was declared until late Sunday 8/28/2005 as the initial brunt on the storm started to make its way inward. There is nothing to stop foresight and declare an emergency prior to a storm hitting, knowing that it was coming " just ask Florida.
3) Back to the city and it being built under water " knowing that, and being told to leave the city and deciding not to, well, people were not able to "ride it out" like they hoped and had done in times past. That would account for the majority of those people still there. I understand there may have been those w/out cars or what ever (most of them did have working legs) but there was ample time to leave.
4) The idiot mayor who is currently jockeying politically right now being angry at the feds and his governor"s "lack of foresight" ought to be pointing a finger in his own direction as is evidence of the 100 or so buses now buried in the water. One kid was smart enough to steal a bus and manage to bring out 80 people"¦ 80 X 100 = 80000 " Lots of people
Overall, the entire fiasco sickens me. The looters (and by looters, I"m not talking about those taking water, food, diapers, formula) but those freakin" hoodlums running around snatching up jewelry, electronics, and what ever else they would never pay for with money they earned with their own sweat. Gangs of little scumbags on a power trip running around reeking havoc on anyone not armed or they think they can get a pot shot off on w/out repercussion " raping, pillaging, absolutely disgusting and not only should not be tolerated, but condemned w/out hesitation.
The entire politicizing of the situation is another sickening aspect"¦ Politicians pointing fingers instead of rolling up sleeves and get working"¦ pathetic.
The thing that really gets me pissed are the idiots making this into a race issue. Give me a freaking break. Is this the final outcome from separating ourselves w/hyphens? The damn storm didn"t care what color people were there, nor did it care there were people there at all. The reason supplies were late in getting there are because the idiot mayors not pushing the idiot governors to freakin" prepare for this. Not only that, there is some logistics in getting the enormous amounts of supplies needed to a place that is underwater, roadways collapsed, and all sorts of crap thrown about everywhere"¦ the toll roads just were not available as they have been prior to the storm. Then, to shoot at the people who are trying to feed you"¦ WTF???? Here is a news flash for everyone " it really isn"t the federal government"s job to bail everyone out for stupid choices they make.
Quit the bickering, donate what ever you can, and lets get our fellow Americans back to a healthier state of being.
The problem is the governor of LA, who is obviously uncapable of being a leader....... She spend Tuesday and Wednesday crying about it instead of doing something about it...AND the FEMA director really dropped the ball....... It's not the President's resposibilty to handle all the logistics of this......... BUT, it is his responsibility to immediately fire the FEMA director when all this is over.........

RE: STAUNCH REPUBLICANS STARTING TO WONDER?
Communications in all forms are important to our way of life and we mostly take for granted. I think lots of the problems centered on people not knowing what was going on. The police couldn"t talk among themselves or to the outside. No electricity means no landline phones, cell phones, mobil phones, radios etc. Most systems have battery backup with emergency generators. Mix in flood waters and nothing worked. It is hard for me to believe that this aspect of the devastation wasn't thought out and planned for.

I'm probably going to catch alot of flak for whatI am going to say but, I am sick of all those people that seem to be physically fit sitting on their butts saying "when is the government going to get here." Can't they do anything for themselves.
When they show pictures etc. of the Tsunami you didn't see anyone waiting on the government, they were doing the best they could with what they had.
Others have said it was a matter of when this was going to happen, not if.
Yet no one, on an individual basis was, prepared.
This is probably the most devastating thing to ever happen in the U.S. and maybe folks will figure out that you have to do things to help yourselves before, during and after such things.Everyone knew it was coming so prepare for the worst.
