I don't think any of the costs of petroliumhave ever been"hidden".Historically,prices have just beenbased on thecost of production,with nothing in the market reflecting the fact thatpetrolium is a non-renewable resource. People treatedoil like there would always be plenty, without regard to the fact that each barrel used in the present is one barrelless available for future use. What amazes me is that prices have jumped, yet nobody seems to be cutting back on use. I wonder how high the prices will go before people start changing their habits.
People can blame Bush all they want. It doesn't matter who's elected, they aren't going to be able to come up with a quick fix. The only real solution is forcing people to give up their SUV's (probably won't win many votes) or developing an alternative energy source, which will take some time.
