I am not trying to bash a guy when he's died under tragic circumstances or offend his family but I have to wonder. Although Herrion was obviously in good enough shape to play for the 49'ers and play well, is being 6-3 and 310 pounds really healthy? Any thoughts on this? Again, no disrespect is intended for Herrion or his family. Everything I've heard is that Herrion was a classy guy.
Quote:
DENVER "”Shaken San Francisco 49ers (search) teammates awaited word Sunday on what caused offensive lineman Thomas Herrion to collapse in the locker room and die shortly after an exhibition game against the Denver Broncos. The 23-year-old guard collapsed after coach Mike Nolan (search) spoke to his team following the game on a relatively cool Saturday night. Medics administered CPR on the 6-foot-3, 310-pound player before an ambulance took him to a Denver hospital...........
Fox said Herrion never struggled during intense drills in 97-degree heat. He added that the lineman had no injuries or health problems while playing at Kilgore. "The young man was in shape," he said.

that really sounds heavy but i guess the only way to know if he was overweight would be a % of fat count, my senior year in school the guy doing our phys' for football said son you need to lose a little weight, they checked my %body fat, he advised me to disregard the weight loss comment as my bf% was 5, another thing that strikes me as strange you get these really big people and they don't have hbp, and somebody that looks in shape does, i guess you never know, these things happen every year, what gets me are the young kids that pass after a w/o, once again it just shows not to take any time for granted..
have a good one

It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome.

You know I'm 6'5" and weigh 290. I don't have high colesteral, high blood pressure, high tryglycerides,etc... I run four times a week, 2 1/2 mile average, and lift light weights. I was in the doctor's office on Wednesday with a sinus infection. We talked about weight loss. He said while he would like me to lose weight, I have a healthy lifestyle as far as what I eat and exercise (even though he wants me to cut down on how MUCH I eat).
My brother in law is a skinny guy, that doesn't exercise. He has high blood pressure, and high cholesteral. His is genetic.
I think it depends on the person's genetics as far as whether the person is a candidate for a heart attack, stroke, or diabetis.

Judging strictly from the pictures showed on TV, he was a bit overweight. I don't give too much credibility to the height/weight charts because, unless you're a stick, you're overweight according to them. Very muscular guys are going to exceed those limits every time by a considerable margin. Herrion was a huge guy and obviously had a lot of muscle, but his face appeared very puffy and he was big around the middle too and could have afforded to lose a few pounds. He was apparently in good shape and good health.
There have been rumors circulating lately about ephedrine being allowed back on store shelves. I haven't heard that it's happened yet, but there are probably still some supplies left from those who saw the ban comming. The toxicology results should tell us if he somehow acquired some and used it.

rick_reno- so anyone dying at an early age is unhealthy ?
I'd have to say that being dead at an early age is much less healthy than being alive at an early age.
I think that I would characterize a 6' 1" 310 pound man as morbidly obese. Of course I would also guess that he had a great deal of muscle, far more than most men 23 yrs old and 310 lbs (since he was signed by an NFL team)still, whether he had an unknown condition or not, his weight would be hard to be considered a healthy sign.
But regardless of the final autopsy results I feel for his family. Parents have a tough row to hoe when they bury a young person.
