Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default seat belts and helmets

How is it that a state can find it appropriate to have a law that makes wearing a seatbelt in a car mandatory yet they do not require a helmet while on a motorcycle

just like alabama enacted a boat operators licsense, but if you were over 45 you were granfathered in, didn't matter if you'd ever been in a boat or not, shortly after this a man,mid 50'sask about a place to fish, and i was trying to tell him how to find it, and he asked what do these river markers your talking about look like[:-], this guy was going from a 10 flat bottom w/10hp to a 18.5 ft. bass boat w/175hp, why not just give him a loaded gun with the hammer pulled back. the only reason i was given why people 45 and olderwere "grandfathered" in was because of who makes the rules (politicians) and their ages. btw i passed the test w/ a 98% i asked the examiner what question i missed, she replied propably the same one as everybody else, regarding sail boats, then she said "nope you got it correct, here is the one you missed" get ready for this

when on a boating trip you should file a float plan with

a. a relitive you live with
b. your neighbor
c. the sherrifs dept.
d. the president

when i read it i laughed at the thought, and picked D,by mistake, ok, you can quit laughing now

Here in WV hunting courses are the same way. Just because I am 43 I didn't have to take a course on gun safety. Heck I moved here from NYC. The only gun I ever saw had nothing to do with hunting.

I think it's stupid since whenever somebody who rides bikes crashes and suffers massive head trauma and lives everybody else's insurance rates go up . Same situation occurs when your insurance agent hears the phrase "wasn't wearing a seatbelt" . Both affect everyone , not just the motorist . [:@]

I think both laws are stupid. I don't need the government trying to protect me from myself.

Kevin, I can't really buy that about the insurance rates. People not wearing seatbelts or helmets may well cause an increase in the insurance rates, but the insurance companies would find a way to increase rates, regardless. They grasp at every excuse. Insurance companies are the second largest crooks in our society, second only to the oil companies.

Got it straight from my agent , Ben .
Every time some dipsheit who thinks he has a Gawd given right to ride his bike without a helmet does so and gets injured your rates go up , same with seatbelt scofflaws . I personally believe that only the jerk involved should shoulder the added cost , but that isn't how it works . I agree that insurance companies are nothing but crooks , since having insurance is mandated by law in nearly every state they should have built in price controls . Once something is mandated it's no longer a free market item .

That would work but a picture would be needed so he could understand it.

I think that if it has been proven that overall wearing a helmet on a bike or a seatbelt in a car will reduce the severity of injuries then accidents involving those who do not will potentially have a greater payout by the insurance company.
If that is true the cost is then going to be passed on to the customers. Therefore not wearing helmets or seatbelts could possibly drive up insurance rates.

I too think you should have the right to not wear a seatbelt or a helmet. However I do not want to pay for that decision. Maybe if you make that decision you should also be deciding that you have waived your rights to an injuryinsurance claim if you have an accident. This way your decision does not drive up the cost of everyone's insurance.
