Within the next few months, anyone in Oregon who has allergies, sinus headaches, etc. will have to see their doctor and get a prescription for over-the-counter medication----anything containing psuedoephedrine. We have for quite a few years been required, if we buy multiple boxes of these meds, to give name and driver's license number. As a law-abiding citizen, I had no problem with that. But give me a break!!! Now we are going to be charged an office visit to buy meds that are legally bought over the counter everywhere else in the country!Something is seriously wrong here![>:]

Yep crock of crap! It never fails the good will allways pay for the bads doing.
Boy I would love to see how much this drops the drug making. This is just about like placing 10 gards in the airport to check old people for nail files. But not check the people that fit the bill!!!!!!!!
Meth is such a big problem though, and maybe this could work. Hopefully it's worth it, but meth makers might start resorting to raiding delivery trucks now or something. More money should just be put into Drug Task Forces or something more practical.

Meth is a huge problem in Oregon. But to financially punish everyday citizens is so, sooo wrong! We have Drug Task Forces. They work their asses off. They bust everyone that they can. But to financially hurt law-abiding people is wrong....and not the answer!

We have a big problem with it in Indiana too , but making the precursor a prescription drug again(That's right , it used to be .) is not going to solve the problem . I read recently that an enormous and growing amount of the meth sold here is being manufactured in Mexico and smuggled into the country . Small town home labs now account for only a small amout of the meth on the street anymore , so that new law is not only intrusive but doomed to failure .

You might be surprised. Tennessee passed a sweeping anti-meth law early this year that included similar restrictions on medication. It also started a statewide registry system for meth users/cooks/sellers that is similar to the sex offender registry, among other things. I was skeptical, but our lab busts have dropped by something like 50 percent since that time.

If people want to do drugs let them. They'll die and we won't have to worry about them. We can do every idiotic thing in a book to prevent people from destroying themselves but it's not going to work. There's a big teenage craze now of chokingthemselves/friends until they pass out to get "high". Well, people are starting to die from that. And it's not even a drug. How are they going to ban that?

Those are the same dimwits that were "huffing" before , they just found another way to starve their brain of oxygen . I agree that just cutting off the legit supply of the precursor is a waste of time .

I agree that requiring a prescription for an OTC medication is simply ridiculous. From a LE perspective (been doing this job for over 14 years), requiring a prescription isn't going to stop meth cookers from obtaining the product and illegally manufacturing meth. whoever designed this law obviously doesn't know very much about LE or how to impact meth manufacturing. Now keeping track of who does purchase psuedoephedrine IS a useful tool. Good post hntngirl. Too bad you're not in the Oregon legislature as they obviously need more common sense in that elected body.
