Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default So, how long will we last you suppose?

Bringing a new life into the world always makes you think. Since my daughter (third child), was born this past August 4th, I've had an opportunity for a fresh look around. What did I see? Well, it scared the hell out of me, let me tell you.

While grocery shopping a couple days ago, I stopped by the sea food cooler for some fish. What did I find? Talapia, whole fish, imported from a farm in China. Are you freaking kidding me?!!!! Fish from China? Wow. Everything is from there now. We are sinking fast.

My fatherinlaw was fired from a life-long career in tier one automotive parts sales. Why? Newer, fancier, younger faces taking over only to pitch and sell the best overseas deals.

Gas.... reached $3.00 here in Michigan for super, diesel is close on its heels at $2.80. This will sink many people and businesses.

I know, I know..... let the free market run its course all in the name of competition.

Ok fine. So, when do you think we will crash? Two years? Five years? Twenty years?

Not at all .
We have the most successful system of all time , mainly because of it's ability to adapt to changing market conditions . Most of the tilapia that I've seen at the market were raised right here , as were the vast majority of the catfish .

kevin's right (hate to say that about a hoosier) the beauty of our system is its adaptability and the productivity of the american people. we'll be fine, if a little bumpy for a while.

Ok. What exactly is this productivity of the American people nowadays though? We are producing less each year, the dollar loses its value every day, China is rapidly taking over every product category in existence, inflation is a normal every day occurance, more jobs are going overseas, housing market is going down (at least in MI), blah blah blah. I'd say it's more than a little bump in the road, more like a gorge we are going to fall in with no way up the canyon wall.

Seriously, how can a prosperous economy remain prosperous with healthy growth, or any growth at all for that matter, with nearly every single product consumed coming from China? This is going to get ugly folks. The point of deindustrializing this nation was for one long range goal and one only - collapse. What happens then? Oh things like marshall law, police state, gun confiscation, concentration camps. This may not happen in my lifetime, but I'm sure my daughter will see it in hers. Scary stuff.

That's the very point though, Kev - that system is slowly being put out to pasture.

Gas consumption up 4% this summer over last. Gas prices go up trucking costs go up pass it on. The consumer gets a little choked but don't live 60 miles from your job and have a huge truck or SUV. If you chose to live that far away from work your fault. Get a closer job or a bicycle. The consumers have not spoke yet about gas prices. We bought even more this year. I saw a story about Walmart on CNBC and Walmarts pricing philosophy is "How low can we sell this item for."
The gas companies say, "How much will people pay for this?" Right now its a hell of alot.

Funny how the price of crude rises a couple of dollars a barrel and gas at the pump goes up immediately but watch how long it takes to drop when crude drops. Oil companies are really gouging the consumer and the present administration has allowed it to happen.

I think any one that cant see there is a problem is eather closing ther eyes or have to much money to care. The only time the public is ever heard is if the rich start to yell. How cares if the low class or middle class have any thing to say.

My family lived off of 30,000 last year. We did not go on any kind vacation. We just bearly got by.I can tell you I spent WAY less money on gass.I live out side of town becouse I can NOT aford to buy any thing in town. Some times people talk of things they do not know any thing about.Befor every one tells me how the price of living is set by the money you make look in to pay in hellena and than look at housing.

From my point of veiw the rich get richer the poor get poorer.Funny how we where told my an acountant we did not hide or cheet enough. His quote was to find the loop holes and use them, then we could make a good living.
To me this meens lie and cheet. I will not teach my kids this so I gess we will make a living.

I feel your pain guys ( full-time student, wife, and one on the way).Cut the comforts, that is all I can say. Look up the Fair Tax Plan, if this gets traction then things would get better.

Bob is pretty doggone accurate. We're currently in a crisis in this country. I don't like the sound of it, but I don't know of any other way to describe it. We think we're invincible. I would imagine that every superpower the world has ever seen thought they, too, were invincible.

Part of the reason we think we're invincible is because our nation has existed for over 200 years now. In these days of instant gratification and on-demand living, 200 years does sound like a long time, but it's quite a blink of the eye as superpowers go.

China, and other foreign markets, have started to eat into the roots of our economy . . . heck, of our very way of life. And now the price-gouging tactics of the oil giants are releasing poison that seeps into the wounds left in the roots by the bite of the Chinese, and will hasten our eventual downfall.

Now we can choose to boast that we're invincible simply because we have a great form of government, a great economic system in place, and the American people have a great resolve (strike that, Americans no longer have any resolve. If we did, we'd be crying uncle at the oil giants), and ignore the problem, and we'll be doomed. Or we can choose to suck it up and do something about it.
