Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Gas Prices

I am so sick of hearing all of the Bushbots say that he can do nothing for gas prices. That is just stupid. Once again, our trade deficit with China grew, and the dollar fell. If Bush wanted to, he could impose tarriffs and trade restrictions. It would slow China's economic growth, slow their manufactoring and their economy, and hence slow their oil consumption. This could help lower gas prices. It would also make our dollar stronger, which means you can buy more for you buck.

Why doesn't Bush do this? Because the trade deficit means a weak dollar. A weak dollar means Bush's big cronies can sell their American products cheaper oversees..........in other words, it helps the rich get richer. Meanwhile, you get hosed.

Yup, it sucks. Not to mention they use ANY excuse to raise the price of oil (hurricanes in gulf, Fauds death, Saudi terror threats.................)
As far as the China thing we could help by spending less time at wal mart, or notbuying those chinese $400 -600bikes or ATVs that seem to be sold everywhere but church.. bought by the container they are WELL under $100 apiece (like the bottom half) and bring us $66.00 a barrel oil.

I feel your pain, really I do. But you're directing your frustration in the wrong direction. Aim your ire at the oil giants.

So to make gas cheaper, you want to try and force a slow down on China's economic growth?

Um, YES! In a nutshell, if we impose fair trade policies on China, it will slow their oil use, strengthen our dollar, and have the effect of raising wages at home.

The downside in huge oil companies and some exporters will lose some profit margin---but I am prepared to live with that.

BP saw a profit increase of 38 percent, totaling $6.7 billion, while Conoco Phillips "” the third largest oil company in the country "” recorded a 56 percent increase in profit, more than $3 billion.

"The huge profits are enormous because the public is drastically overpaying what it costs to produce," said Joan Claybrook, president of the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen.

Many of these companies long ago bought oil reserves at prices of $10 to $25 a barrel. With prices peaking near the $67 mark, the profit margin has been enormous.

Even more eye-opening is the profit in Saudi Arabia. Saudis are making an average of $208 million more each day since the increase in crude oil prices first began in December 2003.

There's the reason for the horrible prices we're paying. We're paying TODAY for gas that hasn't even been pumped out of the ground yet. Bush didn't cause this, the big oil companies did this to us. He cannot be blamed for what his former colleagues are doing to us. He doesn't set the prices and slowing down China's growth (which I'm all for) would be a lot harder to accomplish than you think.

Now I may be wrong but doesnt Congress have to vote on trade agreements,,and wasn't China granted "normal trade relations" status in the mid-nineties,,by congress.

Now dont misunderstand W should take a public stand but we need to hound senators and congressmen about China's trade status they are the ones that can change this
