Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

I just read the link in it's entirety, and it goes on to explain how these frames etc. are permited to be exported/imported.

I fail to see the disparity here.

In particular, section 925(d)(3) provides that the Attorney General shall authorize a firearm to be imported if it meets several conditions: (1) it is not defined as a firearm under the National Firearms Act (NFA); (2) it is generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes; and (3) it is not a surplus military firearm. However, the subsection further provides that "in any case where the Attorney General has not authorized the importation of the firearm pursuant to this paragraph, it shall be unlawful to import any frame, receiver, or barrel of such firearm which would be prohibited if assembled."
North Texan- You need to re-read this. Check out what is bold and underlined.

From the looks of this, only the frames & barrels of foreign origin are subject to this regualtory language. I wonder if this also means Mosin-Nagants and Mauserscan no longer be shipped into the US?

That would be my take, Joe, since it specifies no military surplus.

I read what was in bold, and it sounded a little similar to the assault weapons ban to me since it only allows firearms used for "sporting purposes." What worries me even more is that he is giving some control to Alberto, who is a gun grabber.

Gun grabber? No way, look at all the anti-gun legislation that has been rolled back in his 5 years in office. Don't look too hard....he talks like a Republican, but acts like a Democrat (spending, growing govt, signing anything).

Didn't he say if the AWB were to come across his desk, he would sign it?

North Texan,

Early on in President Bush's first term, he stated that he was not going to be a president that would veto legislation. It was up to congress to get things right the first time...(or words to that effect)

Now, my words...

There have been several presidents in our past that did'nt hesitate to veto bills...As a result, there are those in congress whowould not always give aparticular bill their whole effort, "knowing" wink-wink that it would be veto'ed.

Now, here we are in 2005. Right or wrong,,, I think that the presidents message to congress is pretty clear...Do what you guys are supposed to do and get bills passed...or not...But don't look for me to save your bacon by signing a veto.

In the past, most or all of the attention was on whether or not a president would veto a bill or not, and as a result, the only "bad" guy, or "good" guy, so-to-speak was the president and whether or not he would veto an item or not. Today, there can be no doubt that if it makes it off the floor of congress, he will sign it.

While it is a different topic for debate, I believe that this is one of the causes for much of the animosity between the different parties in congress and for much of the retoric bantered around.

Regardless of what your beliefs are, this is simply another case of President Bush saying what he was gonna do and then doing it. It is what it is. He said he's not gonna veto stuff,,,and he's not.

Actually, all this amounts to is the enforcement of a previously existing law....
