If killing animals for sport is legitimate, Killing them via the Internet is too?
I came across an article today inThe Mercury Newswhere the writer claims that"if killing animals for sport is a legitimate practice, then killing them via the Internet is, too" which I would have to disagree.Whatdo you think?

I would never participate in hunting via internet, but yet I hate to be so quick to condemn it. I think part of the problem is the way the question is posed. It makes it sound like the hunt is just for killing. For me, it is not. Hunting is as much about being out and about in nature, learning animal habits and behavior, and hoping knowledge, skill, and a bit of luck converge in a successful hunt. Success may be a kill, but it may also merely be seeing the game animal, and knowing I would have been able to take it had I chosen to.

The author makes a very legitimate point. I concur wholeheartedly.
I remember reading an article recently that had a quote in it that I really found dead-on, although the article was about a completely different subject (crossbows). The hunter they were interviewing made the statement that "it is a silly fool who thinks killing an animal with one tool is different than killing him with another."
As long as we buy beef wrapped in cellophane at the Shop-Rite, we have no business complaining about this sort of thing. Dead is dead is dead, and once you've justified killing the animal, the rest is just details.
However, it AIN'T hunting. And I sure don't like to hear it called "Internet hunting." Internet killing would be fitting. It ain't hunting. Not by a long shot.

Perhaps killing is killing and as you have all said, it ain't hunting. Yes I believe it should be banned!!! I will go so far as to say if this type of sport was the only way to "hunt" in the future.........guess I wouldn't!

Most real hunters that I know have a profound respect for the animal and have a period of reflection and thanks after the harvest. Killing a game animal is serious stuff and I always think of my deceased dad and thank him for getting me hooked on the sport so many years ago. Killing via internet is like playing war on a game boy only without a responsible ending. It certainly isn'tgiving that animal any respect andis far different than buying beef for consumption.
