If you were convicted of a capital crime (and you did it) andYOU had the option, would you rather be put to death or live the rest of your life behind bars in a max security prison? Assume there is no possibility of parole.

I'd rather be put to death and get it over with. Which is the exact reason I'm against the death penalty. Make murderers and other assorted scumsuffer in their own little hell until nature takes its course.

I think life without parole could be worse, depending upon the living arrangements, etc. Having said that, I still think the death penalty has its' place as a punishment.

However , since I'm a firm believer in "an eye for an eye" I would insist on being executed . Take a life , give a life .

Lets see air condition, cable tv, gym facilities, free education, food and lodging that are better than our troops in the field receive. I think I vote for life, if I'm the criminal.
However since I'm not the criminal the above is why I vote for death. Why should I pay for a better quality of life than I enjoy for some @!#$% criminal. And I would add rape as a capital crime.

Not all prisons are so grand. These new supermax prisons aren't so peachy. Seems like half the inmates start going schizo from the lack of human interaction. Even an older one like San Quentin isn't exactly party central.
If we can sentence a criminal to life or death, we sure as hell can sentence them to life in a concrete box. That's what we need to start working on. Unfortunately I don't remember ever hearing a voter talk about lobbying his/her officials for harsher prisons. It's not too late, though.
And I agree that rape should be a capital offense.

death - inmates have it cream these days with computers, gyms, sex visits from wives/girlfriends, they can get their degrees ......... its aint a chain gang anymore and there is no FEAR of going to prison with todays criminals

That is my main beef with the prison systems today. I feel they should be worked for 18 hours a day at hard labor. If they refuse to work, no food, bed, water, etc. If you don't work in the real world, food doesn't miraculously find its way to your table. Why should prison be any different?

You put this sentiment invery logical, thought-provoking terms.
They might be locked up, but the taxpaying public is still paying for their crimes. Seems an awful lot of peopletalk about reparations of some kind or another. Here's something that actually makes some frickin' sense.
