Gee , I wonder if getting greater Chicago to smile because they're on candid camera will be the stunning success that it has been in London , England ? London has over 1,500 cameras positioned all over town , yet they still have the highest crime rate of any city in England . Theirs go one step farther than the ones planned for Chicago in that they have biometric recognition technology , which is usually wrong about 40% of the time . Anybody want to guess what the Brits have spent on theirs so far ?

RE: Big Brother , coming to a metropolis near you ...
Several years ago, our PD installed several cameras in a skankier part of town. Despite widespread announcements, they made a bust on a sidewalk drugdeal 15 minutes after the systemwas first turned on.
Not too many prodductivecitizens approve ofdrug dealers.Once the problem was cleaned up the justification for it seems to push the boundaries of the privacy issue.

An officer with a shotgun is certainly a heck of a lot cheaper to employ and maintain year after year. But that would include work, so I guess cameras are the only way to go in Chicago. [>:]

Some chicago cops have a unique way of making their ticket quotas - I spoke with one about 7 years ago and he told me that it was not uncommon to open the phone book, pick a name and mail a ticket.
