Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default 1776

just finished watching the musical 1776 with my kids. amazed at the historical accuracy. moreover, i stand in awe of the collection of luminaries that founded this country. what an incredible collection of talent.

hope everyone has a great fourth

Nice to hear.

We don't have many musicals in my neck of the woods. Fireworks are a lot more popular with us rednecks. You know the excitement has arrived when somebody say's "Be careful, Earl." as the fireworks are about to get underway, followed by a "Here, hold my beer and watch this!"

same here. me and the boys blew a hole in a plywood sheet on saturday. having them watch 1776 is a nod to domestic tranquility.

Cannons& morters could be intresting home projects( with adult supervision, knowhow&following the laws of the state, &Batf etc of course.)
I think they mayhave a cannon range at the shooting range near town....

No musicals up this way - maybe they'll burn it on a DVD for those in the sticks.

Now, now, Knightia. We all know that mortars, andany fireworks for that matter, are very dangerous amusements. That's why the BATFE or Fire Marshall will nailyou up for dabbling in homemade construction and dangerous usage. And they have good reason.

Quote:
A 49-year-old Michigan man was fatally injured while volunteering at the city"™s annual Independence Day fireworks display. He loaded a mortar style firework in a steel trash can and lit the fuse. The firework failed to launch and exploded on the ground. The victim was struck in the thigh and bled to death. It was unknown if the firework exploded prematurely.

Also at a public July 4th celebration, a 44-year-old North Dakota firefighter was carrying two 5-inch shells to an area where they would be launched. One shell exploded, possibly as the result of a stray spark from an uncapped fuse. The firefighter died from multiple traumatic injuries.

A 33-year-old Kansas City man was setting off mortar style fireworks out of a black plastic pipe in his backyard. As he leaned over the device and lit the fuse, the firework immediately went off striking him in the face. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead from head injuries.

In a similar incident, a 50-year-old Illinois man placed a 3-inch diameter firework in a launching tube outside the plant where he worked in Illinois. He lit the fuse but the firework did not deploy until he was leaning over the mortar tube. He was struck in the upper chest and left arm and his shirt caught fire. He was transported to the hospital where he died.
Having said that, I had a blast (pun intended) yesterday blowing the crap out of my grandpa's back field. Nothing says American Independence like a mortar battery!
