As I understand it the internet was created right here in the United States for the military to use for information storage and communication . Now everybody is tapped in , mostly to mindlessly surf , but the other countries want us to give up the root servers . Exactly which part of "NO!" don't they get ? We own the internet , not them , they're just renting space . Their solution ? Let's fracture the single greatest piece of communications technology ever created because they can't have control of it . Frankly this pisses me off .
What say ye ?

RE: Ok , so which part of "It isn't yours!" don't you understand ?
The internet is probably the single greatest wonder of the modern world. It would be like asking Egypt to give up its Pyramids.
Such as it always was- those who are without always conspire to try to steal from those who create.

I worked on the refernce implementation of the TCP/IP protocol at SRI in the late 70's. Believe me, we invented this thing and should keep the root servers here.

Better suggestion yet:
Keep our root servers and send the UN somewhere else in the world.

"In a worst-case scenario, countries refusing to accept U.S. control could establish their own separate Domain Name System and thus fracture the Internet into more than one network. That means two users typing the same domain name could reach entirely different Web sites, depending on where they are."
Its ours, no question about that...Lets sit down and talk to these countries, lets not sow the seeds to turn 'our'wonderful internet into a "red taped" intranet...
