I've been watching Howard Dean's incendiary comments for the past month or so and he seems to be going off the deep end. He seems to think he's in the middle of a musdslinging campaign and can't seem to stop inserting foot in mouth. My question is do you think he's helping or hurting the Democratic party? Any thoughts???

RE: Is Howard Dean Helping or Hurting the Democrats??
Dean is helping the republicans. The democrats are playing the same cards over and over and over. The are in need of serious over haul. The nation has by in large rejected the democrats platform and ideology. They have become the party of whinners, pessimist, and bitterness. Few if any people buy what Dean is selling, it's just typical left wing rhetoric and the nation sees through it. Please democrats, get a new gig, this is the same ole same ole.

And Bush is helping the democrats....
True, to an extent. But at least Bush and the other Republican weaklings in Congress right now are hurting the Republicans' chances in '08 because their constituency doesn't agree with their actions; Dean's hurting the Democrats' chances in '08 because he's a freakin' lunatic. I thought it was funny when the Democrats were griping about Terry McAwful's leadership and followed up by appointing Dean as their chairman. . . I think Dean has reacted in his position about like most thought that he would.
Now, I agree with you in the sense that Dean's ill-effect on the Democratic party isn't nearly as great as it could be because so many are incensed at the actions currently being taken by Bush and the Republican-led Congress. But, all it will take is a couple of particular actions between now and campaign time and things could be reversed big time. For example, I think if Rehnquist does retire and Bush is able to get a staunchly anti-abortion, anti-gay rights justice on the high court, that's going to go a looooong way for the Republicans in '08.

Face it ben, in today's political climate, especially with most liberals, calling someone else a "white christian party" is a no brainer. It would more than likely garner alot of additional support.

I'm sure that Dean thinks that he's helping the Dems. He's definitely firing up their base. However, the fact that he's raking in so little cash compared to the Republicans should be a red flag. His rhetoric is going to scare a lot of moderate and conservative Dems from the party, and the perception of the situation in Iraq won't do a bit of good for the Dems.
An interesting thought--what if Bill and Hillary have been sanctioning Howard Dean's rants the whole time? Makes Hillary more moderate (and palatable) to the American people, don't 'cha think?

Good point.
I also question how many people appreciate that a person could make a statement that is disparaging to "white" "christians" and not see the comment as offensive? Most people realize that it is no different than a republican refering to the democratic party as "minority" "jews."
The latter statement would never be accepted. I think that people see that the former statement is just as bad and hypocritical to what the dems are supposed to stand for.
Personally I'd say that Dean is a "minus" for the dems and the cash collected might reflect this. I also think that Hillary can play this to her advantage as she tries to move more to the center.
