Stem Cell Research, Morality, The Nation, The Planet
Heard on CNN this morning that the Republican party is finally wising up and opposing President Bush's Evangelical stance and supporters. Their claim is to have us believe that the USA will lose brilliant scientists to other nations that will support stem cell research, and we as a nation will fall dangerously behind the rest of the world in this medical technology. Seems all the supporters are banking on huge advances in health care stem cell research will bring us. I personally feel it may be just a bit dangerous if not out right foolish.

I'm going to invest alot of money in abortion clinics -- I see a huge money maker in the near future for the sale of fetuses that are created for the sold purpose of selling them off for "research".
This is a brilliant idea, it differs not one iota from China's selling of corneas or other body parts from inmates.
Culling out the weak and the old is a tried and true method of eugenics. Seeing as how now the most fragile of human beings are considered nothing but cannon fodder for egg heads and ghoulish salesmen, I'm hoping we outlaw murder soon... my list is growing exponentially !!

i am not religious, so the religious argument against stem cell research is of no use to me.
i fully support stem cell research.
Same here .
This kind of research , much like genetics , has a certain potential for abuse , but the things it may be able to do for us could offset that in the long run . It isn't a race to be first in my view since the whole race could benefit from it regardless of who's "first" . Just think , someday when you need a liver or kidney medical science just might be able to produce a fresh reject free one for you from your own material . Pretty exciting stuff when you stop to think about it .

Better save your money Tard , with all the backlash against fetal stem cell research these days it's unlikely that the medical industry will pursue it beyond the research level . The most likely scenario will be using the patient's own "sample" to create the new part(s) . Nothing ethically wrong there .

Ignoring President Bush's veto threat, the House voted Tuesday to lift limits on embryonic stem cell research, a measure supporters said could accelerate cures for diseases but opponents viewed as akin to abortion.
Bush called the bill a mistake and said he would veto it. The House approved it by a 238-194 vote, far short of the two-thirds majority that would be needed to override a veto. An alternative offered by Republican leaders that would fund research using stem cells derived from adults and umbilical cords rather than from embryos, passed 430-1, with Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, the lone opponent. But the focus was on the embryo bill.
Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, said the embryonic research bill would force taxpayers to finance "the dismemberment of living, distinct human beings."
