Default Rising cost of hunting gear.

Is the hunting industry doing it too? Is the hunting industry putting themselves out of business? I just got my Cabelas Archery catalog today, and I can't believe the cost of equipment!! We all know the outdoor industry is exploding, I am just afraid with all the sponsorships, advertising, and high tec, the average hunter isn't going to be able to afford anything. I will be the first to admit, I have a Scent-Lok suit, raingear, carbon arrows, good boots, and I like them all, but if things keep going the way they are, I won't be able to have any of these things anymore. I am going to have to learn the ways of the Native American and make my own bows, arrows, and learn how to sew to make my own clothing!

the more i hunt, and the more money i spend, the more and more i think its being at the right place at the right time. i mean, we can get way good and that, but we're just increasing the odds of being there at the critical time. now fishing is another story..i KNOW that im going to catch a 3 1/2 lb bass on the shady side of that log and he will take a junebug garret mega tube instead of a white spinnerbait..almost makes me wish hunting was thta easy...nah...

What really gets me is most of the stuff in those catalogs are now made in China with a few exceptions. I recently bought a Cabela's Dry-Plus suit on Ebay. It looks new, in fact it was said to have been worn once. I got it for less than half the cost of the new catalog price, but still when I saw Made in China on the tag...........well, I couldn't believe they want those kind of prices for a Chinese made product.

Just recently at a local Gander Mountain store I was looking at some boots. Although I knew Rocky and Wolverines were being made in China I could not believe that the Danner boots I looked at were Chinese made too..................and still high! []

This is new. When did Danner start having their boots made in China? I wear them at work but hate buying or using chinese made products.

mobowhuntr - the initial investment in hunting gear isn't expensive compared to other sports.

Buying NEW gear every year, the latest and greatest and fanciest gizmos and gadgets - THATS whats expensive

Exactly.... That's why I still hunt with my old '96 PSE Edge 1000C bow. I bought it for $100 bucks then had it tuned up, set up, and outfitted for me. I couldn't imagine spending $675.95 for the fanciest, latest greatest, fastest bow on the market. Same goes with camo... As long at it is Real Tree Hardwoods, I don't care where I buy it (order from Cabelas or stop in the local Wal-Mart).

The real expense is out of state tags, licenses, and perhaps going with an outfitter. Out of curiosity, has anyone else looked at the cost of one of those outfitter deals? HOLY *#&$!!!!!
