Default Base Closings

Anyone here affected big time by the base closings?. I was reading today that Elsworth in SD is the second largest employer in that stae. South Dakota is mostly farming and tourism as far as its economy. Since I am retired I quess it won't affect me much unless it throws the incomming taxes into a tail spin.

Nope,

Know a guy that it will effect though here in Wisconsin.

Gave him my sympathies but told him that sitting around on your ass filling out paperwork for new seat cushions was beyond what the taxpayers should bear.

He understands my candor.

The only facility in my area that got downsized was Naval Ordinance Station , a repair facilty . Just about all of the civillian contractors are still there , the only change was that the Navy sold the industrial park to the city . It's not only survivng , but thriving . The only other military property that has been closed here was the very elderly Charlestown based Army Ammuniton Plant , but it hadn't been operating for years . It's now housing several businesses including a trucking company and the world headquarters for Yale Dry Cleaning . Closing bases isn't necessarily a bad thing all the time .

In the mean while there are still areas of our military short funded& that they continuely cut back on that are needed.

But it takes lotsa money to rebuild crapholes(iraq/afganiAnd pay them to like us)- enough to ignore the needs of our own, the ones who are being asked to risk all.

Id like to add one other note - for my family in the military this may spell some serious money troubles& im sure for many others in the military in like situations.

If he makes it thew this next 3 yrs ok or not - i doubt there will be another resignup at the last time.

And this goverment is asking for another 50 billion for iraq?[>:]

Does anyone know a link to the complete list of closings, if there is one?

There closing the Naval Reserve Center here in Lubbock, but it probably won't have a big impact. Lubbock lost Reese AFB a while back, which did have a big impact. Abilene and San Angelo get to keep their bases.

Cannon AFB closing would devastate Clovis and that portion of New Mexico. There really isn't a lot at Clovis except the military base, which employs about 20% of the population.
