Default Sheds

Hey everyone,

for the past two years I've been having some awesome luck finding deer sheds in the spring. This year I would like to have an early start. Anyone have an idea when they typically start falling off?

Thanks

Not sure about your area but in my area of sask i have found them as early as Dec 28th. I was hunting mule deer around boxing day and saw one muley already half shedded. I am heading out this weekend to stumble around and hopefully pic up the first of the season. Good Luck

A lot of deer in Central Ontario have lost there racks and December and first of January is normaly the time they start to shed, but it seems to differ from year to year. This year it seems they are hanging on a little longer , maybe there froze on because of the cold we have.LOL...BT

Well i hit the shed hunting hard for a few hours on saturday and no dice. Worked over a few fields that had crop left out that has been demolished by the deer and elk so the critters are there just still packin i guess. Had 3 bucks in the yard that are kind of getting to be pets and they are still hanging onto their bone which is strange because at least one should be shedded you would think. The 2 bigger bucks were sparing a bit for fun and i was watchin out the window hoping they would knock a few antlers off but no luck so the must be on there good yet. My theory is that everything was a few weeks late here this year, rut was delayed a bit so possibly the racks will drop a little later than normal. Just my theory.

Boys are still packin bone here which is really weird. We are feeding a few bucks in the yard and as of 2 nights ago they are still antlered up. I would imagine that the odd one has dropped by now but most seem to be hangin on. However the temps really dipped the last few days and we had a lovely snow storm so i expect them bones to drop now that the cold is back. Goin home next weekend for my february break and hoping to hit the sheds hard for that week. Good luck to everyone and post up what ya find.

I still haven't found anything. I've been out twice for a total of 4-5 hours and no luck.
I'm thinking the snow might be a problem as I'd imagine they would be off by now.
