Default Big Meeting Tonight

There is a meeting tonight to fight the proposed new Hamilton Antihunting bylaw. They want to make it a law that:
- every hunter has an original permission form signed for each day that they are allowed to hunt at each location
- all property that is used for hunting must be fully signed warning that hunting is allowed on the property.

Few farmers will put up signs like this and there aren't that many that will even allow others to post these signs around their property. The other bad thing about the bylaw is that it encompasses all of the "NEW" city of Hamilton. This stretches for 10's of miles out from the city proper and is some of the best local deer hunting around. It makes no difference if you're hunting with a bow or pellet gun the law still applies.

What a bunch of idiots! Just wait til the deer start whacking motorists and destroying crops. I'm surprised Insurance companies aren't interested in this proposal.

It's a crappy way for the politicians to eradicate hunting under the disguise of "public safety" in a city. As far as I know this isn't just for deer, it's for all game. If it was the old city it wouldn't have been that bad but the expanded city runs from Burlington almost up to the 401, over towards Cambridge, almost to Brantford and down south of Binbrook.

Everyone and their brother was there. They had to move the meeting from the hall to the Binbrook arena. Hamilton has backed off on the signs but they've now made large areas (including the one that I hunt) no "weapons" zones. They aren't even allowing pellet guns for target practice in those areas. There is supposed to be another meeting in a week or so in Copetown. They're styepping on a lot of toes with the bylaws. They call guns weapons and have written in exemptions that police can use guns in the line of duty. People that run hunting clubs are in the no weapons zones. It's quite a mess.
