Barb at Northern Caribou Adventures (Donat's)says there is a foot of snow right now, and caribou are in the area. That's what the message say's anyway.

Has anyone heard about the currentprice of fuel up there ? I'm Leaving next Tuesday. Just trying to figure the budjet a bit.

It's different than last year. Barb's recording last year said "they were not in the area-----they were north " We had more than a foot of snow also----probably closer to 2'. CB

Hello from Sault Ste. Marie

2 of us are going to mirage dec 4-7 and this is our first trip for boo. I've found lots of great tips on this thread. I'm wondering if we should bring our own skidoo or just snowshoes and a sled to haul em out? Any other tips?

Cheers

Welcome to a wealth of information about bou hunting!! Two years ago when my in-laws went up, there was like 3' to 4' of snow on the ground. They found places where snowmobiles had gone in and followed those tracks in to hunt. They then loaded their bou on plastic sleds they brought along and pulled them out following the same tracks. They did have one gentlman offer to pull out a bou for them with his snowmobile. Some of the snowmobiles were also having problems getting through the deep powdery snow. From what I understand, it wasn't easiest, but it worked!! We're going to bring plastic sled with us this year to do the same. Even if they don't have as much snow, it does make it easier. Good luck to you!! This is also my first trip up.

that BARB[:@] was of no help to my hunting group. she left her generic answering machine message on all week the years i went. they didnt want to help. just a money making grubbing outfit to me. the mirage helped me out more and answerefd there phone and talked to me even though i wasnt there customer. does donut still have that picture of the baboon he shot in africa. ? he-s my hero. for those of you who get the shaft by northern caribou i told you so. next year book the MIRAGE.

Spoke with Mirage today. There are animals in the area. They are spread out quite a way to the north. If it cools down gradually and doesn't snow too much to cover up available food then it could be a fairly gradual migration an good hunting for several weeks. Hopefully that will be the case, good luck to all and you guys up there now send pics with a full report.

I'll be posting pics Nov 26 when I get back, hopefully there will be a few bulls in the pics.

I called and spoke with Donat today, I stupidly asked if there was enough snow to bother with the snowmobile or not (he said yes), then I said "thanks, bye" and hung up without asking about the herd! I get tunnel vision sometimes.

The deepest snow is under 1 foot right now and most ground is bare. it is just about freesaing at night and35+F in the day. Those going 20 NOV 06 and on will begin to see some light snow each day and by 30th should have a goodbase. I believe those going after 30th will be in snow -snow -snow. Bulk of herd is still above LA1 says Kisk and some are working around to the east dueto the warm weather.

Good luck to allgoing this week and keep your powder dry!

It sounds like you are near the area. Are you close to 22B? Its my first time up Dec 4-7 and looking for info about taking a skidoo or just using snowshoes and a sled. Counting the days!!!

Cheers
