Congrats on the great Bou "got a hunch".
I have a question for you. Please tell me if I am wrong! Wouldn't it be better to be up there a little late( in regards to the caribou getting to the trans taiga rd) than to be there early. If the lakes are not froxen then their will be no caribou but if you missed them than you still have a chance to get some stragglers?
The way Donat's operation works is you have first priority to book for the same time next year, but the guy I was up there with thinks we should strive to get up therea little earlier next year. Our hunt started on Nov 29 this year.

The season only opens on the 15th of nov. And the caribou can swim rather good.LOL

Year to year it's different. We went up early and got skunked so going backlater thisweek. They are all there now.

Hi guys got back today what a rush except for a break down between Matagami and KM541 had to get it towed $3.00 part cost $800..00 tow job oh well insurance paying for it . It was the trip of a lifetime on our way into D Asslin camp had to stop for 20 minutes to allow bou to cross the road went out the next morning we were10 miles from camp saw a couple of bou stoped walked into the woods 50 yards had a thousand bou running around us filled 8 tags in 20 minutes 8 nice bulls but like most 1st timers we should have waited and not filled out tags so fast. While gutting them out saw some truly magnificent racks walk by we skinned them and quartered them right there due to having to combine two trucks of equipment into one so we could fit all the meat into the trucks what a thrill we were there until 4 oclock and the intire 6 or 7 hours there was a steady stream of bou walking past us It was unbelieveable Aslins camp not top notch but worth the money had some great guys sharing the camp with us I would not try to guess how many bou we saw its a long ride and you have to go prepared we hit it at the best possible time even the weather coperated 33 one day but only 4 on the day we started back had some snow every day but nothing to bother about got checked out by the wardens but no big deal well totally wiped out from the travelhope this makes sense will write and send pics another day Camper Len

We go on Nov. 30 every year. Last year most of the big heards had gone through by then but there were enough animals in the area that we still filled up. I think that Nov. 28-Dec. 5 or so is about the best window. If the animals are early you are on the tail end and if they're late then you're on the lead end and stand a good chance of getting some nice bulls. Of course that's only my opinion.

Good to hear all of you had a good trip this year. Thinking of going next year again....we went in 2004 Dec 1-4. Tough hunting but we filled up nothing too brag about size wise.

Going to Newfoundland next year for woodland caribou and moose....might try to squeeze this trip in to.

Talk to you soon.

Hello all. First post on this forum. Just got a call from Mirage outfitters yesterday with a reservation for (4) for22-26 November. With such vast knowledge of this hunt on here what should I expect? Here in the next few days I'll probably go back and read all 63+ pages. Thanks for all the info....

ANY CARIBOU YET? just kidding. as you can see because of my 63 pages of checking in and ranting im seeing alot more phone calls and communication amongst hunter and outfitter. its nice to have options. i think someone should hook me up with a trip next year heck i will even drink all the beer for you CULPRIT your in for a treat reading all the pages. if i can make a prediction i think your gonna slam them next year. see if you can come up a day early or stay and extra day if need be. i would love to experience the helicopter some day. what was the cost this year. in 2001 it was 150$ a man.

I asked about the cost of the helicopter. I was told by a guy who did it. $1500 an hour----3 hour minimum---divided by 4 hunters. So it is $1125 by my math. Those are American dollars.

I'm going back, probably in 07.
