412 is at a higher elevation than Cal. but the weather conditions should not be too diffrent. It will be cold at night and if there are rain showers in Cal. it will probably be snow in the high country. Right now the leaves are in there fall colors and its great to be out hunting. The moose will be thinking about rutting and may respond to calling, though it may be a tad early. Hope you have a great time. Be sure you get a wolf tag and shoot one.

Just wondering why you chose to come all the way to Alberta to hunt moose? If I was In NY I would go to Newfoundland to hunt moose.

DUFFY,

Thanks for the info, the reason I picked alberta over newfoundland, everyone I spoke to (outfitters in nf )and members on this site said the moose are bigger in alberta and the scenery is beautiful. not knowing to much about either place I made a decision on info I was given, and after a 3 year wait its finally here. I have tags for moose, bear, mule deer and the outtfitter is throwing in wolf & coyote-----will let you know how I do

thanks again

mike

Beautiful scenery is in the eye of the moose hunter. Both areas have it I' d say. It seems like there are a lot of black bears around so you have a good chance of getting one. And you never know when you will run into a good mule deer when in the hills. I hope you don' t see any giant white-tails as you don' t have a tag for them. If you do see some you will be wanting to come back to Alberta to hunt deer. (No whitetails or mule deer in Newfoundland) Take a varmint call and keep it in your pocket and maybe a deer fawn destress call. If you see a bear or wolf, a call may help to get you a shot.

Good luck on your hunt...you just might want to move here after your hunt, we are lucky enough to have alot of good species here that are world class. Let' s hear how you made out and what you thought of the land. JDinAB
