Default Big Bore Guys

How do you guys from Africa use the big bore rifles without hurting your shoulder? I am looking for a new rifle and I'm not worried about recoil right now, but i dont want a rifle i will be scared to shoot after putting a few rounds through it. I want a 300 Win Mag. Any ideas on how to err recoil? Thanks

If you are interested on different recoils from different calibers check this web page. www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm . I hope the recoil table will help you out.

Just get a good recoil pad, After a few shots you will get used to it. My uncle shot his 300 while sitting on the bonet of his truck. The recoil hit so hard he fell of the bonet. Never the less to say, after that he got rid of it. Personally for me a the 300 and 416 are a perfect rifle for hunting Africa. at the end of the day you need to be a recoil junkie to appreciate these rifles. Most hunters will say a muzzle break is the answer, thats if you want to have a hearing problem in the future.

Aim to please.

Timba, I'm not a freekin' African nor have I had much experience shooting heavy recoiling cannons. But I have a theory. In Africa much of the game would just as soon bite off your leg or "pound" you into the ground, as give you the time of day. So a bit of a boot in the shoulder is by comparison, a minor irritation. Here in N.A. many hunters who would rather hunt whitetails with a .243, would rather hunt Grizz with a .375 H&H for the same reason.

"Mabelingwane" What kind of a handle is that? Where else in the British Commonwelth, beisides Great Britan, do they call a trucks "hood" a "bonet"?

Oh! I just went to your site and see the S.A. connection. Cheereo!

Robin

Duffy... I appologise, but bad habits are difficult to get rid of. Ive only been in BC for 2 years and the African bush still runs deep in my veins.

Regarding recoil again, You must be comfortable with the fire arm, or you must leave it, It will help nothing if you flinch before you pull the trigger.

I agree with Duffy's statement.

No Appologies nessasary. I think that most Canucks would know what a bonet is but I don't know if many of our Yankee friends would have caught it. Do you hunt and fish in B.C.? I have not been to the coast to fish salmon in more than a few years. I must get out to the Island soooooon.
