Default A Billion Dollars!?!?!?

This is a quote from my local newspaper today.

Ottawa;
The real costs of the contoversial national gun registery program will be revealed today by Auditor General Sheila Fraser.

It`s the first time the pricetag of the seven year old program has been detailed. Canadian Alliance MP Garry Breitkreuz, who has been battling the federal government since it implemented the program in 1995, expects Fraser`s report will show the cost to be quickly reaching the $1 billion mark.

"This has been a huge boondoggle for the government and we`re not getting anything that is helping public safety, or helping the police, in any way, to reducing crime" said Breitkreuz.

This program was to originally cost no more than $2 million dollars. For that new price, every major city in Canada could be equipped with two M.R.I.s

I think we all knew when this started that it was a farse!!! Instead of targeting the criminals it targeted the legal gun owners.

One of the other participants on this forum has a signature (I apologize if I got it wrong) that states &quot; Gun's cause crime like fly's cause garbage&quot;.

That's all that has to be said. Allan Rock is moron.

This report is actually nice timing especially with the release of the report on the current state of our health care system. Maybe now the general public will see what a huge waste of time and money it is and demand that some of this be spent on health care. Nearly a billion dollars for a system that has proven time and time again to fail is a joke. I can't believe people, other than gun owners, are not screaming for heads to roll. In the private sector, this kind of overspending would cause some serious head rolling. In the goverment it just gets hidden!
I wonder what a billion dollars could do for the health care system? Or cancer research for that matter. I'd like to know how much was given to cancer research in that same time period! Nowwhere near as much, I'll bet. Cancer kills way more people in this country than guns do.

340 is right. Alan Rock is a moron. And so are any of the supporters for this system, which basically means all of the Liberals.

It would have been cheaper buying back guns that people didn't want anymore. They'd probably have about the same number registered as they're getting this way. It helps the economy too. We get the old guns for scrap steel at Dofasco.

Just think:

They've spent all that money, and:
- no one is safer from gun violence than they were before,
- not one life has been saved, and
- not one criminal has registered a gun.

D*mn is our goverment good! <img src=icon_smile_8ball.gif border=0 align=middle>

And to top it all off... I read in the paper that they have issued licenses to people who should not have gotten one because of previous criminal activities!!!!

Boy do I love our great government. NOT!!!!!!!

Do you know how many people you would put out of work in Miramachi NB if you scrapped the regristry? We've got to keep the unemployment level down in the east coast somehow. They should have put the registry in NFLD. It would give the cod fisherman permanent employment.

Rick, you're mistaken, &quot;Mom&quot; Boucher, one of Canadas most notorious criminals registered his handgun with no problems!!!
There was also a man that managed to register a heat gun, under make he recorded &quot;Black & Decker&quot; !!!
Just two examples that prove that even if they could compile a complete list of firearms it wouldn't make a difference because no-one is looking at it.
