RE: Huge 2006 SK Buck gets arrowed!!
Cool beans Northern. I am not sure if you have ever hunted the park b4 or hunted elk in the area that time of year but living there 23 years i can give you some advice. First off the park is a jungle, hazel brush limits your sight and shooting lanes. When hunting find a good opening like a slough, medow or a clean trail to sit downwind of. The elk that time of year are herded up in good size herd of up to 50 or so, not the huge herds like winter but still good numbers. Watch for spikers in the group of girls, they usually hang towards the back of the pack so keep that in mind. There will never be any big bulls in with them, they have hung up in bachelor groups for the winter. A few days b4 the season drive around the park and find where the elk are crossing the road to feed or fields that have a large mount of pawing, tracks etc bordering the bush. You won't be able to miss this cause it looks like a farmers herd of cattle was let out. Get permission on the fields bordering the park for access and follow these trails back into the park for afternoon and evening hunting. The elk move out into the field after shooting time during november so sitting back on the main trails 500 yards or so will give you a shot at them during shooting time. The morning hunting is equvelant to shooting fish in a barrel. The girls all feed late and move back to the park late after finishing breakfast. They can easily be intercepted on the way back to the bush. Walk down the parkline well b4 shooting time and wait on the edge or slightly back on a trail and wait for girls to come back. This is usually a fool proof 100% tactic. Best of luck to you guys. How many tags you fellas have to fill?
