Default Ontario sunday gun expansion

Yeee haw !

I was on the MNR site the other day and found that they are opening new areas for sunday gun hunting.
It only affects one of the areas I hunt (62), but its great news cause in the past I would drive 2.5hrs on a friday, hunt saturday and come home sunday morn, now I can get a whole 'nother hunt in. If you gun hunt in southern or central Ontario you might want to take a look and see if it affects any of your areas.

That is good news. There is only a very small part of the area I hunt. WMU#73. Just a small southern part I think.

What is the logic in a no-Sunday hunt rule? Is this typical in your WMU's?

NQB, not sure there is any logic, except maybe to allow dog walkers and other non-hunters a day to enjoy the woods. I think it may be held-over from past more religious times.
We can target shoot guns on sundays, and we can archery hunt sundays, just no sunday gun hunting. This applies to southern Ontario WMUs, but as stated, they are opening a few areas.

I think it goes back to the days where you couldn't miss Church on Sundays or maybe disturbing Church Services with Gun cracking...

84 is in but I don't see it as any benefit when the gun season is Monday to Friday.

Only a small part of 84 is in. Like you stated it is not much good for the deer hunters, but great for turkey and small game hunters. lets hope duck hunters get the nod also.

If you look at last years regs. you will notice that forwaterfowl ( which is Fed regulated) they spelled out where you could hunt on Sunday. They will have to update their regs to be inline with the Provincial regs for small game. The Fedsusually set their regs in July or Early August. One sticking point is that municipalities have the say where sunday hunting is OK. There are grey areas. Let say you are 1/2 mile off shore in lake huron but the area at shore does not allow sunday hunting. As you are not in a municipality but fed regulated waters. can you hunt on sunday? I have put this question to the OFAH but they haven't responded yet (3 weeks ago)
