I own both a 4X Leupold and a 1-4x20 Leupold, likely own about 20+ Leupolds now. Both my .444s wear 1-4 Leupolds. If there might be a cartridge that should have a low powered scope for game that might run AT you rather then away when shot, I'd call the .444 one, myself. I can guarantee you that when something does that at very close range, you'd be better off having a 1-2X low end scope rather then a 4X fixed. I had a huge, nasty hog decide he wanted his revenge at under 10 yards and I'm glad I had a very low powered scope on top for the final verdict in the episode.

Simply my personal opinion, of course.

I like a straight 4x but I like one with a larger aperture then most of those shown, they let in a little more light for early morn and evening hunts..

That is what I had on my NEF 45/70

I would like to get a 4570 marlin. If and when I do I think id go with extended eye relief scope and this base with the ghost ring. together with quick release bases you would have a great all around gun/ scope I would consider a 2-7 or 1-4 power scope. http://www.amazon.com/Xs-Marlin-1895...ght+scope+base
