Default New Leupold VX-R?

I was wondering if anybody here has had a chance to try out the Leupold VX-R. I was about to buy one last night but figured Id get some opinions before I ordered.

I want to put it on a .308 and will be shooting somewhere between 150-200 yards

thanks in advance for any advice

Nope, but I know someone who has one. He likes it pretty well. I'm understanding the glass is comparable to VXII stuff. Leupy also has a (soon to be out) new model with a 6X zoom. Oddly enough, it's called the VX6. LOL. A 2-12 X 42 sounds interesting to me.

If the glass is comparable to the VXII I think you could get better glass for the price elsewhere. I would rather have a Zeiss Conquest for the money myself. The illuminated reticles may be OK, but if you don't have good glass/coatings to see the deer at dusk the illumination won't help..

The VX R in a 3-9 X 40 is selling for $479.95 @ SWFA. Seems high (to me) for a VXII glass with ill. reticle. The VX 6 will be $799-$899 for a 2-12.

I have looked through them at Cabela's and that's about the extent of my experience with them. I compared them to the VXII, VXIII and a Trijicon and I thought they were as clear as the VXIII. Ofcourse I couldn't really compare them in low light situations though. I have read that they are in between the VXII & VXIII as far as glass quality. I wouldn't mind having one and I am seriously thinking about picking up one in 2-7 since Cabela's sent me the wrong scope.
