Although I've never had to do it, I've heard about folks using aluminum (from soda cans), plastic strips (like cut from credit cards) or just purchasing from Brownells (or similar). It sure seems like an invitation to trouble to me (such as torqueing issues). Making sure your bases and rings are good to go or switching them out entirely would seem a better approach.
