Default Help me pick out a scope

Hi everyone, this christmas I will be getting a remington 700 3006 and I need a scope for it. I dont have a big budget only 150.00 max and cheaper than that would be really great. So far everyone has been telling me that leupold and nikons are really good but there also really expensive. I know you cant get the best quality for the cheapest but I need somthing that I can hunt deer with and target shoot. Ive seen refurbished scoped im magizines for pretty cheap but what do you all think about those. I probably need somthing that can withstand high recoil from a 3006. I really like nikons partly because they have the program that you can play around with your sights online and calculate drop and it makes everything easier. I have ran across barska scopes and ive been told that they are really bad and poor quality, but I read reviews and everyone that accually has one really likes them. What do you guys think about barska there prices are low and the reviews seem great. I live in missouri so a lot of the shots will be in dense woods and a lot across long open fields so a scope that can do both would be best.
thanks in advance for any help.

Does anybody have any expirience with bushnell banners. I held one at bass pro yesturday and I liked it a lot.

There is a difference between a $99 scope and a $1,000 scope.

Buy whatever you like; get a lifetime warranty...................

If it were me; I'd get a less expensive rifle and spend more on my scope (dare I say; bases & rings & sling......)

IMO in your price range the best bet would be to try to find a Burris FFII on eBay. If you can step up to $175 get one of the 2-7x33 Vortex Vipers on clearance at Cameralandny.com. They are great scopes with great glass as well as a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

If you can't afford that and have to get something in the $100 price range several sites, SWFA included have the Nikon Prostaff on sale for right at $100 for the 3-9x40. While I don't think the Prostaff is a good choice at it's normal price range, just because there are a lot better options for similar money, I don't think it can be beat for $100. It's a good scope with decent glass. Low light performance isn't so great, but what can you expect for $100. The Burris FFII has a lot better glass, turrets, and pretty much everything about it is better, but it also costs a little more unless you can find a used one.

Check e-bay for a used or new 3200 Elite Bushnell. I saw a couple on there a while back for about $150. Nice scope for the money. Opticsplanet.com has them for about $180. SWFA might have a refurbished/demo model, they are worth a look anyway.

Look up Cameraland NY and give Doug a call. He won't steer you wrong, and their prices are great. they have a Pentax Pioneer, which is essentially a Burris FFII at bargain prices, as are the Vortex Viper.

Is there a need to mount a scope ASAP? If there isn't save that $150 and add more money as time goes on. I love the Leupold VX-II in 3-9x40, $300 is the normal price, but if you search the internet you may find it cheaper, or just buy a use one

Another nice scope choice, Cabela's has the Nikon Pro Staff 3x9x40 Matt on sale for $149.99 right now.

They actually have, or at least had last time I checked the one with the plex reticle for $100. SWFA and some other places also have it for this price. It's not a bad scope at all for $100.

I agree with Sheridan, your weapon is only as good as the scope, which is only as good as the mounts. Too many people cut corners on their Optics, hugely overlooked aspect of the Sport. Spend at least as much on the scope as you spent on the rifle or more. Don't buy cheap and don't by Barska, Junk.
