Default Optics planet ?????

Went to Opticsplanet on the net and picked out five different choices, all silver to stay with the "look" of the 700 in stainless. Started with the Burris because I really like the shape and the ballistic plex. Photo shows it in silver, but with the guy from Opticsplanet on the phone, I find it's a black scope , not even made in silver. Second choice, the Zeise, [ all choices in the $500 area and up with at least a 40mm lens ], it would have to be ordered. Next the Sightron Big Sky, no got. Bushnell 4200 series, maybe in a couple weeks, the silver Loupy, have to be ordered. I told him forget it and drove almost to Chicago,[ Portage, In.] and bought the exact Leopold I wanted, the VX-3 in 4.5-14x40mm from Bass Pro Shop. The last time I tried to order a scope from Opticsplanet and have it shipped to my home in northern Indiana, I was told they were afraid to "export" it to Indiana. Last time I checked, it would be shipped to Indiana from Ill. not exported--any of the rest of you had experiences like this with Opticsplanet? I know I'm done with them-----

John,

Ordered four (4) scopes from them in the past two years - no problems.

They did "drop ship" one scope that was out of stock, which I recieved the following week.

I do realize that had I been ordering the much more common black scopes, gloss or flat, I might have had no problems at all. Just a little irked that the several silvers were listed, but not really availiable without having to special order. If they are going to be listed for sale, then keep one or two in stock---

John, I've only ordered from them once...several years ago. It went smoothly with no issues. Guess everybody just bought them out prior to hunting season. Anyway, all's well that ends well! Good luck with the new rig.

ok, iv'e settled down now and it's sort of funny cause I just got an email from Opticsplanet saying they had shipped a black one already. This is a $350 Burris Fullfield ll, 3-9 Ballistic Plex and Iv'e got just the gun to put it on so all's well that ends well---one thing's for certain, if winter is ever over I'm planning to see what the outfitter in southern Indiana can come up with---

John,

I only use Burris (signature select), so I don't like it when I hear anyone "dog" them.

Let us know what you think of the scope, once you get/use it ?

Be honest......................!!!

Sheridan---will do. Iv'e also noticed that there are a few on the forum who are not fans of Burris scopes although some of the local hunters around here swear by them. This one I have coming is is a Fullfield ll 3-9x40 in the $345 range so I'm expecting it to be durable and dependable. It's going on a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WSM so I'll have a pretty good idea of what I have once it's sighted in. I won't be able to verify how well it holds up over time, but I'll definately comment on brighness and apparent quality........John

Wasn't sure which way to go on it when I got the email from them saying the black scope had already been shipped, but it worked out great. My CZ 550 International 06 is now sporting a 4.5x-14x, considerably more scope than it had on it before so I'm glad I decided to keep it. The gun was very accurate with the 3200 series Bushnell that was on it and fortunately the factory scope mounts were just high enough to allow some clearance for the front bell of the Burris. Couldn't have worked out better--
I'll be needing a spotting scope in the spring and I'll get it from Optics Planet--Iv'e finally reached the point where all my rifles are scoped decently, just waiting for the weather to break--thanks again for the good advice on optics Iv'e gotten from this forum-------John

John,

Glad everything worked out for the best !

You know, most of my rifles are stainless and I prefer the look of a matte scope on them.

A low mount helps to insure a good cheek weld, particularly for smaller people like me.
