A fixed 4X would be fine if that's what you want. The Zeiss Conquest 4X is a dandy. Keep in mind that mounting scopes on #1's is sometimes challenging. A long tube or long eye relief is often helpful. Sometimes you may even have to resort to an offset (extension) type ring. If the rifle is blued, gloss scopes look very nice on them. I had a .270 (wood, blue) that I had both a Bushnell 4200 Elite 3-9 X 40 (matte) and a Sightron 3-9 X 42 (gloss) on it. I liked the Sightron better, but both were very good, and both have coatings to shed moisture. Keep us posted on your choice and how well it's working out. Good luck and good shooting.
