Default Returning a scope to factory defaults??

Is there an excepted method of returning the windage and elevation adjustments on a scope back to the way it came from the factory?

I have an older but nice 2x7 Leopold VXll that has been on a lot of guns over the years and would like to start out fresh so to speak prior to mounting on a new gun. Any suggestions?

Does simply counting the "clicks" and setting at the halfway point accomplish that?

Turn it all the way (one way) then turn it the opposite way all the way back while counting the clicks. Then go back half way. That will get you back to the center of the adjustment range. Some high end scopes (S&B for example) have dials that just allow for centering but your Leupy doesn't.

ok, this tip is from the leupold website, (I'll throw in a tip now and then that I found out by doing it many, many times)

if the scope is mounted on a rifle use a small mirror, (if its off the rifle use a big one, such as your bathroom mirror)

hold the mirror against the objective end of the scope (on its lowest power)

look through the eyepiece, you'll see the reticle and a reflection of it.

turn your adjustments until the reflection and the reticle appear as 1, up and down, left and right.

Your scope is now at a true mechanical center.
