I'm very cautious about buying anything that is either no name brand or a brand I've never heard of. Might be a good one, but I wouldn't go there.
Here is a link to a range finder I recently bought for my grandson to use while bowhunting. Bushnell, good for 5 to 800 yards, laser sight, angle range comp. With the $100 rebate it is a heck of a deal. www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-4x-bowhunter-chuck-adams-editions-bow-mode-202204.html
I'm with Timber on this. If you're gonna spend that much money, get a brand name with customer support. Example, Don't let you buddy throw a tree stand in the back on the truck on the dufflebag that has your rangefinder on it. Bushnell warrantied it. I don't think you'd be as lucky with a cheap knockoff.

why would a rangefinder marketed for bowhunting be rated to 800 yards?, get you a 400 yard bushy and have at it for bowhunting, if you wanna range a deer sized target or smaller beyond 400 yards, get a leica or a swuaro. most cheap rangefinders will range a deer sized target to around half the rated range. I've ranged deer with my 1200 leica to 1218 yards.

Why the rating, cause it is suppose to go that far, it is suppose to be a little better than the 400 Bushnell and it is suppose to work at bow shooting ranges also..
Why pay 5 or 8 times as much to shoot a bow 40 yards or less?
The guy seemed to be in the market for a good dependable lower price range finder.
he asked for advise, I gave him an experienced opinion. If the funds aren't there to buy a suitable rangefinder for deer hunting and long range plinking, will they be available after he buys a cheap one that won't do what he needs it to do? good lazer units cost, about any unit can read a hard target to 800 yards, try it on a groundhog.
I'll add this, the best thing that ever happened to me was the day I lost my bushnel rangefinder and replaced it with a leica.
RR
Maybe you just got a bad Bushy. I had mine on a prairie dog shoot and I was ranging dogs out to 350 or 375 with it. After that I went to hard targets. One lease I hunt we regularly have shots out to 600 yards, and it ranges most the way on deer. I like the Scout cause it's small. I know it's not a $500 unit, but like I said earlier, Bushnell has good customer service.
