Just bought a new Savage Accustock 116. I had an extra Leupy VXII 3x9x40 lying around, so I figured it would do fine.... for awhile anyway....
Problem is ...I ordered the Burris signature 2 piecerings and bases, Mounted the scope...and the scope isn't long enough.....Bummer!!
Looked on Leupold's website....it appears that all of there scopes will have the same problem with the Burris bases/rings.
So....bought a Leupold 2-piece STD base. The scope fits...but the rear base sits over the reciever about 1 inch[:'(]. The scope has very little travel rearward in the rings. I can use it like that...but I really prefer tomove the scope a tad farther rearward....just more comfortable.
I would really like to use the Burris signature rings...especially since I paid a good price for them.
Any suggestions on a scope that will fit? I am a Leupy man....but am open to suggestions on a scope that will actually fit well in the rings.
Anyone else have a newer Savage? Can you offer a solution... or should I just use the Leupold base?
Haven't shot the gun yet....waiting untill I resolve this problem.

RE: Leupold scopes too short for Savage Long Action?
Bummer, I hate it when that happens. Perhaps you can get some sort of picatinney or tactical multi-slotted one piece base? Millet makes one that fits various Savages. Or perhaps a Talley lightweight scopemount (where the base and lower ring half are one unit) that can be flipped around for shorter tubed scopes. There are tons of scopes out there...just depends on your wants, needs and budget. Good luck.

Thanks fo rthe advice. Millet does offer a picatinny rail for the savage accutrigger. That, coupled with some Leupold PRW rings should do it.
If it's good enough for the military....I suppose it's good enough!!

Call the people at www.riflescopes.com and ask them. They should have someone on staff that can give you a more inexpensive answer than just buying a base and hoping it will work..
RE: Leupold scopes too short for Savage Long Action?
Caution on the use of the picatinny type base and rings. Some of these railswill raise your scope higher than regular rings / bases. If you don't shoot with a firm cheekweld to the stock, this should not bother you. But if you like to keep your head firmly on the stock you may have to get a strap-on cheekpiece.
Did you try the extended bases from Burris and leupold for that rifle? They will be a 2 peice unit.
The stocks on the military guns take the mount height into consideration, that accustock does'nt.
Take a look at Brownells.com for mounts and bases.

Thanks for the advice...will look into extended rings!!
