Default Please help me pick a scope for 22lr

Alright gents help me out please. The rifle is a 10-22 with hogue overmolded stock, green mountain barrel and volq hammer. It has wore a tasco 6-24x40 for 10 years or so. I started using it for rabbits so the 6x was too much. Currently it's wearing an old millet dot sight. That isn't enough power for the further squirrels. So let's say a 2-7, 3-9, 4-12 or 4-16x with a $150 cap. What power and brand would you recommend?

Blessings

Don't just look at the power setting. IMO, the Field Of View (FOV) is a very important number. You may have a scope with a 4X base power that has a larger FOV at 100 yards than some 3X or 2X scopes.

I've used a Simmons Deerfield 3x9x32mm on a .22 and liked it. Maybe not the best out there but good enough for target shooting which is all I did. I'm not sure if they still make them or not. I like quality scopes and have a Burris on my 30-06 however, I just don't think I'd spend that kind of money on a scope for a .22. I have a muzzle loader that wears a 3x9x40mm Tasco that was $30 at Wal-Mart. I think $31 something now. It does pretty well too and soo far I've had great luck with it. I had another one but I sold it to a buddy. It was my spare scope and I used it on my 30-06 while the Leupold was sent in for repair. I later put the Burris on it and kept the Leupold for a spare. For the money it seems to be a decent scope and a .22 doesn't have much recoil. Is it as clear as the Burris? Probably not but to me it seemed about as clear as the Leupold VX-I. A buddy said it looked clearer to him but I'm not sure. Either way it is plenty clear.

Took the Simmons 22Mag scope 3x9x32 w/AO out today for a test on my Marlin 39A. Good scope and you can't beat the price. Adjustments are easy with finger adjustable turrets. I'm very happy with it.

I have one of these Leupold VX II 3-9 EFR scopes on one of my 22's and love it. It is super clear and has very fine crosshairs for precision shooting.

Not saying that's not a good scope and glad you like it but how many people are going to spend $400 on a scope for a .22? I know lots of guys with .22's and none of them have a scope anywhere near that price on them. That's about double what most .22's cost.

That's what I was thinking too.
I second guessed spending $89 on the ProStaff for my 10/22
Most people I know just put a Simmons Deerfield on 22's.

Not knocking the gent, he is trying to help, but the cap is $150. I have no problem with a $30 scope if it is good quality. Not really a need for low light. Only clarity. I will not buy a leupold though, they still use a 3 peice tube that everyone else went away from in the Eighties and Sightron glass. So you can get a current 1 peice tube and the same glass for 1/2 or less going with sightron. Thanks for the help so far. If anyone else likes what they have under $150 please post it.
Blessings
