What do you guys suggest for a muzzleloader? I am thinking about the Nikon Prostaff, but I know the Nikon Omega is built for muzzleloaders and I wonder how the BDC will work at different loads?

I'd go ProStaff 3-9X40. As a matter of fact I did! I'm not sure how the BDC is going to work with my ML, but I'm going to do a lot of testing with it. From what I understand, all the Omega has over the ProStaff is more eye relief when mounted.

I've never understood why some scopes are designated specifically for ML's.IMO it's just a marketing strategy. While I'm a Leupold fan either of those should be fine.

You will have to be the one to see how the BDC works with your load, even if you buy the omega. Be sure to tape the info for your load to the scope (so you can remember if that was 10" high or 18" at 225 yards?). IMO these graduated recticle scopes are awesome, but you still need to check your load at all ranges to see where the bullets actually fall(and if they still group), usually its not nice round numbers like 200 yds, 250 yds and 300 yds. My burris ballistic plex on mysavage ML is 190, 240, 280, and 310 (if I can ever get my groups tighter that far out).

I would stick with the lower magnfication 2x-7x models as you're never going to shoot a deer so far away with a muzzleloader that you can't see him with 7x. Personally, I have fixed 4x scopes on both my knights. The bdc is good only if you use the exact load reccomended to use with it, otherwise, it's not going to be calibrated for different loadings and it's even possible to be more likely to make you miss IF your load is much different from the bdc load causuing you to rely too much on the reticle that's off anyway.

Doesn't the Nikon Omega have better glass than the Prostaff???? I believe the Prostaff lets in 92% while the Omega is 95%. --DrAsus

the omega is the way to go on your muzz.you have to use 150 grains of powder/pellets and a 250 grain bullet.

I have an older1.5x5 Bushnell Trophy and it does a fine job.....not much scope needed on a smokepole.
