I have a Leupold VX-1 which I think is right around your price range. I guess it's okay but I'm not had the best of luck with it. Sent it in once and it seemed like the insides were shaking. It would get blurry after a shot. Then now I can't get it to sight in close not sure if it's the scope or me. It's okay but okay at best. I've had 2 $30 Tasco's I liked about as much if not more. I sold one but still use one on my muzzle loader. Then a Simmons I think was $60 although that was probably 4 years ago and I like it just as much or more and none of the others have given me problems.

I also today just bought a Burris Fullfield II from Dicks Sporting Goods. They local one here had it on clearance for $199.I think think .99. It also came with a free Garmin Etrex GPS. This combo was $223 or something on Cheaper than Dirt and I think $260 some on Dicks website. I may try this scope out and see how I like it. I've heard decent things about it and I think that's too good of a deal to pass up. If I can't get my Leupold doing right on my 30-06 I'm going to try this scope out on it. I've already had a friend offer to buy it from me and let me keep the GPS. He wasn't paying what I paid but wanted to buy the scope for a resonable price and then me have the GPS.

You might also take a look at Nikon and Bushnell.

I just put a Bushnell 4200 4-16x40 on a Prohunter 270 barrel. I haven't shot it yet, but the 4200 seems to be on par with a VXIII. Nice clear glass that allows plenty of light.
