I've not personally seen either, but the Vortex Viper series has had some good press.

Is the Vortex Viper the one that some hunting magazine gave an award of the year to? Like, best glass for around $100 or something?

J, The typical Viper in 3-9 X 40 runs about $325 + or -. The Vortex Diamondback is cheaper and may be what you are referring to.

Check the specs - they may be the same piece, rebranded. If so, go with the longer warranty.

I bought a Vortex Viper 2-7x for my mountain rifle, & I've been well pleased with it.

I have an Alpen 15-45x60 Spotting Scope and I love it, it's very clear and easy to use. I actually have a website that I sell Alpen optics from, this link should get you to the Alpen start page
http://www.redpinesports.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=395_792

and this code will get you free shipping. RPSFS0108

if you see something you like let me know, i'll see what else I can do for you.
