I have no experience with the Pro-staff, however, I used to have a Rem 700 PSS with a buckmaster on it. This was a tactical use rifle for me that I used in several sniper competitions in FL, and CA. For the Money, i feel that this is a really tough scope to beat. I would gladly put it up against some of the High end luepold scopes as I have a MK 4 on my .338 LM. I wish I hadn't bought it. The Nikon is clear, and hold zero well. This rifle / scope combo was taken to SD for prairie dogs and used to take several at ranges past 700 meters.
I have heard lots of good things about the Pro-staff as well, but as I said, I have never USED one. The buckmaster really gets my nod.

Good Luck

I know for sure that the windage adjustment for the Pro-Staff needs to be done with a screwdriver or coin. I think the Buckmaster has fingertip adjustment. The optics on the Pro-Staff are actually very good, and I am told that the Buckmaster is even better.

my prostaff does about all that i ask of it. supposedly the buckmaster will give you a little more light transmission but i don't know that its worth the extra $$$$.

You won't be disappointed with a buckmaster.

I have several of the older model Buckmasters and Monarchs. When hunting with the Buckmaster, I honestly can't see a difference between it and a monarch which cost even more. Maybe there is some lab test that can tell the difference in light transmission, but I can't see it in the real world, even past dusk. I don't own a Prostaff yet, but I am seriously thinking that they just relabeled the older Buckmasters as Prostaffs when they introduced the new Buckmaster line. Can't prove that, but the tube is exactly the same on the outside at least. Great scopes for the price either way.

I have a 3x9 prostaff on my 270 wsm and a 6x18 buckmaster on my 223 AI and the difference is in the coatings.
