RE: BSA sweet 22 rifle scope
Personally I would get a better scope and just shoot the gun at the distances it was meant to be shot at. What are you going to do with a .22 long rifle at 200 yards?
Not to mention there is a very large difference in the drop rate between different types of .22 ammo, which is it calibrated for? And for what scope height? Using taller rings would mess it up I think.
I looked up the scope and see it comes with three different drums for 36,38 and 40 grn bullets.
Your 40 grn bullet ranges from 1000 fps to 1435 fps. With a 75 yard sight in drop at 175 yards would be 39 inches to 21 inches from the slowest load to the fastest load. That's a pretty big spread to me. The 36 and 38 grn bullets have similar spreads in velocity and drop as well, but the most common is the 40 grn. You would also have nearly 20 inches of wind drift at 175 yards with a 10 mile an hour cross wind. While the scope can compensate for drop, it does not for wind drift. In my opinion it is easier to dope range than it is the wind.
Not to mention different guns shoot different loads at different velocities. This thing might get you close, but I wouldn't expect to be snypering bunnies at 150 yards with it just relying on the compensator. I just don't think the accuracy will be there. And that is providing your load is accurate at that distance to begin with.
Also keep in mind BSA is not known for high quality and I have heard of some of the scopes having tracking issues. This would wreak havoc on this sort of system. If your scope can't track well or return to zero when adjusted reliably this just won't work. I have owned some BSA's and honestly haven't any problems with them as far as functionability goes. Some don't have the greatest optics, especially at higher powers, but they worked. I also didn't have any of the cheaper ones. These Sweet scopes unfortunately are not based on their higher end models. I do know people that have had problems with BSA scopes though. Their customer service is awsome if that means anything.
Personally I would spend the money on a less fancy scope with better optics. I think you would be happier in the long run. I would pick a mildot before one of these, as a matter of fact I did for my 17HMR.
May I ask what the intended purpose of this gun is going to be?
