I've been looking for a new scope for several months now.I'm putting a new scope on my Remington 30.06 and am asking for ya'll's opinions on which one I should get of the four listed. I'm looking for something that's around $200.00 and under and have narrowed it down to these four. Which would you choose and why? Light transmission is an area that I'm really concerned about because mine seems to be getting worse and worse every year. Thanks. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I voted for the leupold vari I scope I bought the same one for my 30.06.A friend of mine has the same one on his 338 win mag for the last 5 years if it can handle that kind of recoil for that long it was the scope for me.
I wouldnt even look at those 2 Leupolds they arent 1 piece scopes have crappy glass and arent multicoated. They are prob the worst products in the 200$ class. Swfa.com has the 3-9x40 Nikon Monarchs for 218$ that is your best deal out there buy far. If you wantto spend less the Burris FF II, Buckmasterand the Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 areunder 200$andall blow away the Leupolds you have up there.
Im debating a Pro-staff myself, they are 99$ at www.samplelist.com for the refurbed model. THey have a bunch of 3-9x40 Buckmasters for 150 there also.
swfa.com has an awesome optics forum on that site and there is some real good info to read on the scopes. If you goto swfa.com its on the bottom left hand side, click on optics talk forum.

Having just done the "scope dance" earlier this week, I feel your pain! I was surprised about the quality of glass one can find for $200 - $300 bucks these days.
Like NoKnees, I was really impressed with the Burris FFII. Nikon Monarchs @ $219 sound like an incredible bargain: I'm more than pleased with the ProStaffs I own, & the Monarchs are a good step up from there. Leupold does what they do rather well, but I didn't find them to be that competitive on the price/value continuum.
I suggest trying to find a store with the biggest selection possible, then taking your time when comparing scopes. Make sure you get each one focused for your eyes before you make any selections. I parked my car 300+ yards away from the store, & placed a target on the side window. That way, I could see which scopes would show the bullet holes most clearly. I also went around dusk, so I could tell how well the scopes did in low light.
It doesn't sound like there's a loser in the bunch of the scopes you listed. Take your time, try to look at realistic targets, and trust your own eyes!
I've been scope shopping too! The cheaper Leupy's are living off of past reputation, and when you get to their higher line, you can always find better, cheaper!!!
Burris FF and Nikon Monarchs are bargains as far as the price-to-quality ratio!

The Buckmasters would be the best of the ones you have listed. But, the Nikon Monarch at $218 + shipping from SWFA is a great deal. I just put a Monarch on my Tikka T3 and it is much better than my Leupold VX I and Vari-X 2.
