Default Mounting scope bases.... which loctite?

assuming everyone is using loctite when mounting their scope bases...... what loctite are you using. I have loctite brand 271 and 272 on hand. Both are the "red" kind and called "High Strength thread locker" Will this workor should I be using something else or am I off in left field and people don't use this and are using something else.

thanks,
Dave

Use which ever of the two that you would like to use, as both should work fine. Be sure to tighten "well." I have gotten feedback and read that if your bases come with the torex (sp?) screws as opposed to standard screws or hex heads, then they are suppose to tighten and stay tight better.

I would personally stay away from Loc-tite especially if you plan on upgrading or replacing mounts in the future. You don't need it unless your rifle is an absolute slammer. If you must have loc-tite use medium or low strength.

I have used blue loctite on the base screwsfor years and have no problem breaking if required.I don't put loctite on the rings, as they can be checked regularily and easily. I wouldn't use red as it may require heat to break it's hold.

I haven't used a mount that doesn't use torx's for a while, you can get better grip on them when tightening or loosening with less chance for the head to strip out. This is thought behind the torx red lion

Skeeter has it right, use the blue. The red is for "a permanant assembly" so to speak. You can remove fastners assembled with red loctite but it is a lot harder, especially for smaller fastners. The blue is for removable applications. Clean the mating parts thoroughly and use it sparingly. You should have no problem.
