Default Recomend Binoculars

So I've decided its about time I upgrade my binoculars. I've got a pair of compacts right now that, when looking through them, its about like looking through a fogged windshield.

Considering I spent $200 on my rangefinder, I've decided to spend roughly $200 on a decent pair of binoculars. They'll especially come in handy as I'm not missing my Mule deer trip this September for a third year in a row.

I'm thinking something not incredibly heavy, if thats at all possible. If not, I'll live.

bought a pair of Redhead 10x42 ar Bass Pro on closeout for $49 reg $149. was also going to spend $200 but at this price I couldn't pass it up. Anything comparable was twice as much. I'm not sur who makes the for Redhead, but the Quality is surprisingly good I was still able to see well through them untill about 20min after sunset.

I look for a waterproof, quality set....I used to use Bushnell 10X50's. I had gone through several pair and rain devestated them.

I now own Brunton 10X50's. Waterproof and in your price range.

One of the few accessories that far to many people go cheap on. I couldn't imagine having/wanting less than the highest quality glass especialy if I were ever going to pursue ANYTHING out West! $200 is certainly still pretty cheap for any sort of optic but it could atleast get you close to something like the Nikon Monarchs. If you could just put a couple hundred more dollars into your optic purchase you would atleast be able to get closer to the class of optic I believe would make a difference. Clarity, especially for longer ranges, has to be paid for. Good luck with whatever you chose?

I have the Bushnell 8 x 42 Legends and find they are well designed for handling. These binoculars come with the rainguard and do the job very well. I cary them with me at all time when hunting and find they are a good size without being to big and bulky. Good luck in your shopping...

I like the Nikon Monarch.
My buddy just got a pair of Redhead Epic 8x42s
we compared to my monarch 8x42.
the monarch focused in a little better closer up...the redheads a little heavier...both good binos
I would not be suprised if Nikonmade em for basspro. The fit and feelareclose.
At nearly $100 less than the Monarch it may be a good buy for you.

At the $200 price point and assuming a roof prism glass I would suggest the Bushnell Excursions. I just saw the 10x42 on sale at Cabelas for well under the $200 price point though that is typically what they sell for.

In terms of a porro prism design the previously mentioned Action Extremes would be great but significantly more bulky than any of the roof prisms suggested.

Lastly, as mentioned above, binoculars are one of the few pieces of gear that I would skimp on. Bumping your price range up $100 more open up alot more options. The previously mentioned Nikon Monarchs...Bushnell Legends, Pentax DCF HR IIs, Carson XMs and a variety of other phase coated roof prism glasses should more than suit your needs.

in my opinion anything Nikon.... i actually use the 10x25 realtree nikons...not even $100 and work well for me...for mule deer hunting and looking out 1/2 to 1 mile you may want to buy something much larger like a 12x50 or so, but really that should all be done with a spotting scope. the realtree's are very lite and quick to get into focus...poor boys good binoculars in my opinion
